Ahead of the 2015 general elections and current clamour by Delta North Senatorial District as most suitable to produce the next governor as well as the ensuing outwitting and mudslinging by various contenders and pretenders jostling to occupy the exalted seat, incumbent Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has said that only God could decide who becomes governor in 2015.

“He who becomes Governor in 2015 will be decided by God,” the Governor said, stating that neither he nor President Goodluck Jonathan has the power to do such.

Speaking on Sunday at a thanksgiving service at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Ubiaja, Edo stateGovernor Uduaghan stated that power comes from God. According to him, “those who wants to step into one shoe or the other should please seek the face of God.”

While reiterating that only God can give power, the Governor disclosed that his emergence as Governor in 2007 was divine, emphasizing that he cannot stop giving thanks to God for His goodness.

He added that the choice of Professor Amos Utuama as his Deputy was also by divine intervention stating that after emerging as the governorship candidate, his greatest challenge was who was going to be his Deputy considering the political nature of Delta State.

“What is the political implication of having someone from Delta Central or North?”, he stated observing that within the last two years, three Deputy Governors have been removed from office.

While noting that there has been no regret since he has been working with Prof. Utuama, he called for more prayer to enable his administration finish strong in 2015.

He emphasized, “we are working harder to finish strong,” assuring that Delta State will witness more developmental projects before the end of his administration.

Also speaking, his Deputy, Prof. Utuama said, “we want to acknowledge before everyone that power comes from God,” stating that it has been “an exciting opportunity working with Governor Uduaghan, “he is a very intelligent person.”

Earlier in a sermon, Revd Fr. Francis Omolume said, “what the Governor, his Deputy and their families are doing is in line with the word of God; showing gratitude to God.”

He urged political office holders to use their positions to serve humanity and charged Governor Uduaghan to continue to execute people-oriented programs.
