Buhari Is Nigeria's President-Elect  *Jonathan Assures Smooth Handover

“Muhammadu Buhari, of the APC, having satisfied the requirement for the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

These were the words of Prof. Attahiru Jega, ChIrman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Muhammadu Buhari won Nigeria’s March 28, 2015 presidential election by 2.57 million votes.

According to official results announced by INEC, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won 15, 424, 921 votes or 53.95 percent of the 28, 587, 564 total valid votes cast, while incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won 12, 853, 162 (44.96 percent) at the election, which was held on Saturday and Sunday.

INEC chairman Attahiru Jega said: “Muhammadu Buhari, of the APC, having satisfied the requirement for the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan and presidential candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated the winner of the March 28 presidential election, General Muhammadu Buhari of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Blank NEWS Online reports that President Jonathan had called Buhari at 5:15pm to make a concession and congratulate the winner, promising to ensure smooth handover.

The Director Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council Garba Shehu, on behalf of President-elect Buhari, thanked Nigerians for voting for change.

However, Buhari therefore advised all APC members not be involved in the molestation of opponents or the destruction of their property. “He or she is not with me, whoever does that,” Buhari said.
