The Delta State Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education is positioning itself to meet the current trends in the world of computerization of information.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie made this assertion while declaring open a 2-day enlightenment workshop on Offline Registration and Checking of Results for Basic Education Certificate Examinations for Principals, Examination Officers and School Administrators in public and private secondary schools in the state, at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba.

Mr. Ebie, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. David Onokpe, Directors and Chief Inspectors of Education in the Ministry, averred that the world has come of age in the dissemination of information through computers and the Ministry despite the challenges encountered in the previous exercise, cannot go back to manual method of submitting information by examination Officers, who spent days at the Ministry’s headquarters just to register their students.

He said that the workshop currently running simultaneously in eight centres across the state has become imperative at equipping all stakeholders with the techniques for the conduct of a hitch-free 2015/16 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and similar examinations in the future.

Mr. Ebie while appealing to participants to take the workshop seriously in order to get the techniques of the offline registration and checking of results for BECE, warned that the Ministry would no longer accept excuses for lapses as it has reviewed the whole process aimed at making the exercise hitch free.

Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the Director Examinations and Standards, Dr. Prince Felix Akporugo called on Principals and other participants to pay apt attention on modalities of entering candidates for the offline registration, arrangement of candidates in alphanumerical order, collating of candidates data into electronic format, procedures for access into the websites for checking results and use of candidates number to check results.

While describing the participants as partners in the conduct of examination, Prince Akporugo enjoined them to avail themselves of the ample opportunity of the workshop to adequately equip them for the forthcoming registration of Basic Education Certificate Examination scheduled to commence on Tuesday 1st December, 2015.
