The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Bashorun Askia Ogieh FCNA, CrFA, today led Executive Directors and Management, on a first-call condolence visit to the family of Hon. Joyce Overah, who passed on, yesterday, Wednesday June 9, 2020.

The Commission’s helmsman was accompanied on the solemn visit by the Executive Directors in charge of Projects and Planning as well as that of Research and Statistics, Hon. Barr. Daniel Mayuku and Comr. Amb. Shedrack Agediga, respectively.

Also on the high-powered convoy were, Heads of Departments and Units in charge of Administration & Supplies, Finance & Account, Works, Utility, Housing, Project Monitoring & Evaluation, PRS, Protocol, CDPE, Security, Media & Public Affairs; the SSA, Media & Communications and the SA Technical to MD/CEO of the Commission.

In a brief speech by the MD/CEO at the visit, Bashorun Askia expressed the utter shock of the Board and entire Commission at the sudden demise of Hon. Joyce Overah. He described him as a quintessential gentleman, a consummate political chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, as well as a trusted colleague, whose counsel and inputs were highly resourceful until he breathed his last.

He made it clear that the present visit was a first-call, in flesh and blood, to truly confirm the veracity of the sad news, adding that the full Board would in no distant time, return to complete the condolence visit and be well seized on the next line of action, to do the needful, regarding his final departure rights.

The Director, Administration & Supplies, Pst. Ferdinand Ebiboh later prayed and asked the good Lord to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Responding on behalf of the Overah family, a sibling of the deceased, Mr. Raymond Overah thanked the MD/CEO, Bashorun Ogieh and his team from the Commission, for their prompt condolence visit. He said the Commission would be carried along in all the planning incidental to the funeral rites.

It will be recalled that the sudden, shocking and rude news of the demise of the Member representing Urhobo nationality on the Board of the Commission, Hon. Joyce Overah was broken on Tuesday June 9, 2020, at Sapele.

Until his death, Hon Joyce Overah represented Sapele, Okpe and Ethiope West Council Areas on the board of DESOPADEC.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
