“Don’t Use Your Personal Political Ambition To Disintegrate Isoko Nationality” -Prof Akpotu

-By Michael J. EKOKORUWE:

The president general of the Apex body and social cultural organization of Isoko ethnic nationality, Isoko Development Union (IDU), Prof. Chris Akpotu has warned politicians not to use their personal political ambition to disintegrate Isoko nationality.

Prof. Akpotu made the hint while speaking to newsmen at Isoko Unity house Oleh, Isoko South local government area of Delta State.

He stated that “We are aware of much heat arising from the various political offices to be contested, and IDU as the mouth-piece of Isoko people, cannot sit down and fold our hands and watch things the way they are going. We want to emphasize the fact that nobody should use his own political or personal ambition to disintegrate our nationality”.

Akpotu emphasized that “Isoko has remained one indissoluble entity and will continue to function as one entity, stressing that the political field in Isoko is open to every Isoko son and daughter that is willing to demonstrate his or her capacity.

He maintained that in the new political dispensation, the people will always speak and elect those that will represent them qualitatively, noting that “gone are the days when some persons sit in their high castles and just select representatives that will not come back and give account of their stewardship to the people”.

Continuing he said, “Isoko people, by their own sense of functioning are mentally equipped, psychologically disposed, socially and politically aware and I know they will make the right choice when the time comes”, adding that Nobody should be afraid of the competition that is associated with the political arena.

The president general maintained that, the political arena is open for every Isoko son and daughter to participate, but the participation must be the type that shows civility to ensure that the peace of Isoko is sustained at all times,
adding that “Isoko people will not sit down and watch anybody trying to use their personal ambition to cause disintegration among the Isoko people”.

Akpotu stated that “A nationality that is divided against itself cannot progress but breed animosity”, reiterating that Isoko cannot be divided as multiple entities.

“We are happy with all our sons and daughters that are showing interest. It makes us to have a feel of the fact that Isoko is well endowed and loaded with people that are aware of the environment, loaded with people that are aspiring to develop Isoko. We encourage everybody to wear the garb of peace, courtesy and decency, considering the level of agitations and tension that are fast brewing, we think it is necessary to speak to the generality of those that are involved in the process that their conduct must raise the bar of peace and courtesy and decent political operations”, he said.

Akpotu stated that, Isoko Development Union is putting together a programme where all the political gladiators will come together to share common ideas so that the interest of Isoko is more paramount compared to our personal interest, noting that, anyone that desire to serve Isoko people must demonstrate a character that keeps Isoko people together.
