Health: Dame Okowa Flags Off Sickle Cell Clinic In Delta *Unveils State-Of-Art Equipments

Founder of 05 Initiative and wife of Delta state Governor, Dame Mrs. Edith Okowa has brougt respite to sufferers of sickle cell anaemia by flagging off the Sickle Cell Clinic at the Central Hospital, Agbor.

While commssioning the children sickle cell unit at the Central Hospital, Agbor today, Monday, September 21, 2015, Dame Okowa expressed delight that the equipment would bring succour to anaemic patients in Delta state.

She said that the project is part of the areas she had mapped out from the prosperity agenda of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration, saying that it is a self-driven project and promised to replicate the project in all the Central Hospitals in Delta state.

She described the 05 Initiative as a humanitarian programme which draws its objectives from the Biblical book of Matthew 25: 35-36 with an obligation of “Changing our world, one person at a time.”

Mrs. Oghenekevwe Agas, Director General of the 05 Initiative thanked the Governor’s wife for promising to replicate the project in all Central Hospitals in the state, adding that the 05 Initiative is desirous to sustain its sensitization and advocacy programmes to help in enlightening the people, especially carriers.

The governor’s wife who was accompanied by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ebere Otuaro, inspected modern facilities provided by the 05 Initiative at the clinic, located at the Pediatric center, while the demonstration of laboratory procedures in management crisis was conducted by Mr. Isibor Clement.

Mr. Matthew Adu, who also demonstrated how to conduct test on patients with sickle cell anaemia disclosed that a new research which shows that there is about 2.5 percent of AC carriers in Ika ethnic nationality.

He lauded Dame Okowa for providing the equipment which include, Hematology auto analyzer, Haemoglobin electro phoresis and Hematocrit centrifuge.

Further presentations were cariied out by Dr.S. E.Elozino, Consultant Paediatrician and Dr. Gozi Maduka, a gynecologist at the Central Hospital, Agbor while the children and members of the Sickle Cell Club of Delta State had a “Success and Survival” drama presentation and testimonies from patients to bring hope to the African Child.
