Security Watch: Uduaghan Laments Killing Of Oneya's Daughter By Suspected Armed Robbers

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has bemoaned the unfortunate and dastardly killing of Ms Frances Oneya, daughter of former Military Administrator of Kano and Benue States, General Dominic Oneya (rtd.)

The late Ms Oneya was shot dead last Friday in Effurun by suspected armed robbers who accosted her after she had made cash withdrawal at a new generation bank.

Uduaghan said the killing of the 35 years old mother of four was particularly sad and tragic, coming at a time the peace and security architecture of his administration had helped in stemming the tide of armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

Governor Uduaghan who paid a condolence visit to the home of the Oneya’s on Sunday promised to assist the police in ensuring that the killers were arrested and brought to book.

He warned criminal elements hiding in the state to turn a new leaf or be prepared to face the consequence of their nefarious activities and assured Deltans of his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property in the state.

In his response General Oneya who was also one time Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association, thanked the governor for identifying with him and his family in their moment of grief.

He also acknowledged that the Governor made frantic efforts to save the life of the deceased when she was shot, adding that the gesture was a demonstration of his deep concern for the safety of Deltans.

Recall that dare devil armed robbers on Friday morning, shot the daughter Retired Brig General Dominic Oneya, former military administrator of Kano state, after trailing her from a bank.

The Delta state Police Public Relations officer, DSP Celestine Kalu had confirmed the incident said, saying, “She (victim) went to the bank to withdraw money. I think they followed her (from the bank). They shot her and took her handbag but they did not know that the money was not in the bag; it was in the boot of the car.

The car was recovered along with the N250, 000 cash, adding that the police were on the trail of the robbers.
