Tension Builds Up In Delta Over Planned Sack Of Commissioners By Gov. Okowa

Delta state polity have been heated up, owing to the plot by the state governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to drop some alleged non performing Commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.

Although the seeming overhaul has been trending in the past weeks, shortly after the January 6 Local Government election which was swept by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state government and its officials have kept mum on the issue.

Penultimate Tuesday, during the State Executive Council meeting which lasted till about 9:00 pm at Government House, Asaba, the Governor told the Commissioners that “certain changes are expected to take place but urged them to sustain their faith in the party.”

Meanwhile, tension has hightened in the state, following an alleged last minute resolve by the governor to sanction erring Commissioners through sack, which some political pundits claimed is overdue.

At Government House, on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, most of the Commissioners present ahead of the Executive Council meeting wore gloomy and anxious faces, unsure of who the Governor’s sledge hammer would hit.
