AS the 2015 general elections draw near, President General of Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Chief Paul Enebeli has urged Nigerians to be cautious of aspirants who wants to buy their votes.
Chief Enebeli said for Nigerians to have full dividends of democracy, they should be careful of aspirants who get to elective positions through their money rather than integrity.
The NNU President who was speaking when an aspirant to Delta North Senatorial seat, Surveyor Paul Osaji paid him a consultative visit emphasized that assessing aspirants based on their financial war chest rather than integrity and what they can offer the country is one of the challenges facing Nigeria’s democracy.
He advocated for politics of excellence and situation where credible aspirants are sponsored instead of situation where aspirants for elective positions buy their ways into positions of authority.
“We need effective representation because they are the people to determine our faith,” he said, adding, “credible candidates would ensure that the contest for elective positions would bring out the best in the people because someone who does not have school certificate should not supervise Ph. D thesis.”
He called on Nigerians to be actively involved in the electoral process and avoid apportining blames by taking responsibilities for their actions.
Chief Enebeli also, observed that with the democratic situation of the country, Nigeria is in urgent need of statesmen.
To him, “we need statesmen for the country to move forward, people who can say things the way they are, people who are not looking for contract, people who loves the country, true statesmen.”
The NNU President-General used the occasion to restate the need for the governorship position of Delta State to shift to Delta North Senatoria District.
According to him, “it is just, fair and equitable for power to shift, and we in Delta North should produce the next Governor of Delta State.”
Chief Enebeli, a Pharmacist congratulated Surveyor Osaji for leaving the private sector to contest for elective position.
He said, “I think you are a good material to represent Delta North in the Senate, I want to congratulate you and wish you well.”
Earlier, Surveyor Osaji said he would put his experience at the private sector and as former Commissioner for Works in Delta State to bare in ensuring effective representation of the people of Delta North.
Mr Tony Okoh from Ika North-East local government area of Delta State thanked Chief Enebeli for been truthful and straight forward in analysing the situation of things in the country.
