Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

The member representing Ika South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Okoh Festus Chukwuyem, has warned against any attempt to cause crises in Ika South local government in the guise of fighting for supremacy in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Hon. Chukwuyem gave the warning at the weekend when Chairman of the Delta State Council of NURTW, Chief Ifeanyi Obi led some officials of the Union to meet with him on possible ways to nip in the bud impending leadership crises in the area.

Contenders for the chairmanship position for the local government branch of the NURTW were also in attendance at the meeting.

According to Hon. Chukwuyem, “what we want is peace, there is nothing that we are fighting for that we will take when we are leaving this world and I can confidently tell you that anybody who wants to cause trouble in Ika South will be dealt with according to the law.”

“We don’t want trouble of any kind, nobody can be pleased 100 per cent, so, accept the situation and let us live in peace,” the law maker told the chairmanship contenders.

He commended the efforts of the Delta Council of the drivers’ union towards having peace in Ika South NURTW which has led to the creation of four branches of the Union in the local government.

Chief Obi had told the Assembly member that after series of deliberations on how to solve the crises in the area, State Council of the NURTW decided to create another branch of the Union.

He appealed on those involved to accept the situation as one of the measures to attain peace, stating that Ika South was one of the very few areas that were causing challenges for the Union.

While commending the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his understanding of the situation in the area, Chief Obi appealed to those involved to have the spirit of give and take in the interest of all stakeholders.

“I want to thank our Governor for the way he is handling activities in the state, for his patience and understanding, and I want to call on our members to accept the situation of things which is in everybody’s interest; we have created  Ika South branch “D” for peace to reign, we should all work together, accept the situation and avoid encroaching in other people’s branches so that we can have peace,” he said.
