While the dust on the sack of Senator Uche Ekwunife by the Court of Appeal is yet to settle down, Nigeria’s apex judicial body, the Supreme Court has sacked Stella Oduah and Andy Uba, the two remaining senators in the National Assembly from Anambra State.

The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, sacked the senators and members of the House of Representatives from Anambra State. The senators, including Ekwunife, emerged on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chris Uba, younger brother to Andy Uba, and Prince Emeka are expected to take over seats vacated by Andy Uba and Stella Oduah respectively, while former Senator Annie Okonkwo is in line to represent the PDP in a forthcoming election to fill a senatorial seat held by Uche Ekwunife who was sacked last December by the Court of Appeal.

Friday’s ruling by the Supreme Court upheld an earlier decision by Justice Chukwu of the Federal High Court laying out the proper procedures for selection of the PDP’s legislative candidates.

In December 2014, the Federal High Court had ruled that it was only the constitutionally recognized state party leadership led by Ejike Oguebego that could organize the party primaries.

The Supreme Court’s ruling reaffirmed the High Court’s verdict, declaring that the Ejike Oguebego-led PDP executive had the sole right to hold the primaries in Anambra State.

Oduah was a former Minister of Aviation, while Ubah was a former Special Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Domestic Affairs.

It could be recaled that Chris Uba had dragged INEC and PDP to the Supreme Court over a concocted list of nominated candidates for the 2015 general elections in Anambra state for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Chief Ejike Oguebego as party chairman.

The apex court was to determine who were the legal and validly nominated candidates of the party to stand for the general elections for the party in the state.

They had held party primaries where Uba, Sen Annie Okonkwo and Prince John Emeka emerged the Anambra South, Central and North respectively. While Charles Odedo(Idemili), Julius Ofoma(Nnewi), Tony Offiah(Aguata) and others emerged candidates for the House of Representatives.
