*Hundreds Of Millions Lost *Houses, Markets Roof Blown Off, Many Injured

The people of Alifekede Community, a border town between Delta and Edo state in Ika South local government area of Delta state, have been thrown into pitiable situation as a result of the recent heavy rainfall which devastated the agrarian and commercial community.

Elders, women and stakeholders from the community, who lamented the ugly incident that slightly brought the community on its knees, have appealed to the Federal government to come to their aid, as most affected families have lost their shelter, agricultural produce and earnings to the rain and wind storm which hit the community on Thursday, April 19, 2018.

The rainstorm pulled out rooftops, felled economic trees and electric poles, destroyed arable farmlands, food crops and other farm produce meant to be sold in the market, amounting to hundreds of millions of naira in cost, despite the utter neglect of the border community by successive governments in Delta state.

Although no death was recorded during the incident, many persons including market women who had displayed their wares were severely injured while many home owners have been rendered homeless, among other displaced persons.

While conducting newsmen round the community, an All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain, Engr. Obiazi Kingsley Isioma , appealed to the Global community, donors, the Federal government and its relevant agencies, corporate organizations and good spirited individuals to urgently to come to the aid of the community through disaster reliefs, monetary and humanitarian support.

He disclosed that Alifekede community, which presently lacks government presence has suffered a major setback due to the rainstorm disaster, despite its large contribution to the economic wellbeing of Delta state and Nigeria.
