Director General of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, Eugene Azuka Uzum Esq, has advised parents in the state and beyond to encourage their children and ward to embrace vocational education towards the acquisition of useful skills.
Uzum gave the advice during the weekly Orientation Half Hour programme of the bureau with the Delta State Broadcasting Service television in Asaba.
The orientation boss who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the bureau, Mr Johnson Ebigide, maintained that the era of paper qualification was fast fading away, saying that the ability of one to practically impact positively towards the development of the society is gradually becoming the yardstick to measure ones productivity and competence.
He opined that white-collar jobs were becoming scarce, adding that the greatness of the Asian tigers could be traceable to their taking skill acquisition so seriously that nearly every citizen from the zone was equipped with exportable human capacity that enhances high productivity.
He disclosed that apart from the various technical colleges, there were ,at least, ten vocational education centres across the three senatorial districts of the state, offering various vocational trainings that would equip products of the centres with the requisite skills necessary for not only their employability, but being self reliant in their chosen areas of training.
The DG emphasized that the best education is no longer in mere paper qualification that may not guarantee ones future but that which one is sure to contribute ones quotas meaningfully towards not only ones survival, but the uplifting of humanity in general.
