OSOM Games 2022: NSCDC Shines, Haul Medals @ 5th Edition

.The recently concluded 5th Edition of One Service One Medal Games (OSOM 2022) held in Abuja ended with spectacular performances put up by NSCDC athletes as the Corps emerged Second (2nd) Best on the overall medals table.

Team NSCDC competed and won medals in thirteen (13) Sporting events which Included Athletics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Chess, Football, Golf, Scrabble, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Tennis.

The games was conceptualized to among other benefits help to discover talented athletes, encourage and promote medal winning competitions amongst the security agencies and to prepare those that will represent and win laurels for Nigeria at major international sports competitions such as the Olympics, Commonwealth and the All African Games amongst others.

The NSCDC team competed for honours at the games alongside other security and law enforcement agencies like the Nigerian Navy (NN), Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Department of State Security (DSS), Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Team NSCDC which attended the event in high spirit finished second place on the medals table with a total of 92 Medals (36 Gold, 35 Silver & 21 Bronze Medals).

The Commandant in charge of sports at the Corps National Headquarters, Austin Ogbadu, thanked the NSCDC Management under the leadership of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, for the moral and financial support to the team, without which the feat could not have been achieved.

He dedicated the medals won to the Commandant General, the management and staff of the Corps across the federation. He however promised a more spectacular and outstanding performance that will put the Corps atop other contenders in future competitions.

The head of sports added that the vision of the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, is to produce a new generation of international athletes to replace the likes of Haruna Quadri, Olusoji Fasuba, Uche Isaac, Helen Emedolu, Damola Osayomi, Franca Idoko to mention but a few talents produced by the Corps that represented the country in the past.

He further explained that about 53 of the NSCDC athletes at the recently concluded competition had represented Nigeria in major International Championships and hinted that the NSCDC Sports Management will return to the drawing board to assess the team’s performance and restrategize on dominating future championship.

The team was represented by 200 Athletes, 35 Coaches, 320 Officials and several support arms.
