-From Albert OGRAKA:

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Bashorun Askia Ogieh, has expressed thanks to God for seeing Deltans through the flood period.

He also expressed gratefulness to the state governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa CON, for his support.

The four DESOPADEC-sponsored IDP camps were located at Oleh, Ashaka, Okwagbe and Evwreni.

Bashorun Askia said that the proactive steps taken by the Commission, was in fulfilment of DESOPADEC’s corporate responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of citizens at the mandate area.

A statement titled, “As Flood IDPs Return Home” and signed by Bashorun Askia Ogieh reads:

“After about 40 days under our care, we are delighted to see the over 6,000 victims of the recent flood disaster return to their various communities as we wound down the four DESOPADEC-sponsored IDP camps at Oleh, Ashaka, Okwagbe and Evwreni, over the weekend.

“Providing all essentials – from the holding camp itself to beddings, foods, medicals, ante-natal and post-natal services, learning, play and sports facilities and equipment, security and other conveniences – was in fulfilment of our corporate responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of citizens of our mandate area.

“Though we cannot possibly replace all that they surely have lost, we are delighted to have put smiles on their faces with the further provision of financial support to ease their settling back.

“Our greatest joy, however, is that, acting together, we replaced their sorrow with joy, their despair with hope and they now have gone back to resume their normal life with strength.

“In all this, we are most thankful to God for seeing us all through the difficult period and also grateful to His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa CON, for his support.”
