The chairman of Isoko South local government council, Hon. Victor Asasa has said that the maintenance of the failed portions of Oleh – Ogbemudia Express Road was in fulfillment of his campaign promise to the people of Isoko South local government area of Delta State.

Asasa made the statement at the weekend while fielding questions from journalists at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South local government area.

Hon. Asasa, who spoke through the secretary of the local government council, Hon. Vantus Ogboghro, said, “The maintenance of the failed portion of the road is for the benefit of the people that have suffered the deplorable state of the road over a year.”

Continuing, Asasa added that the attention of the Delta State interventionist agency, DESOPADEC had been drawn to the deplorable state of the road, stating that promise made by DESOPADEC to fix the road is being delayed in coming to fruition.

Speaking further, he said, “Pained by the outcry of the people concerning the deplorable state of the road, the council decided to carry out maintenance work on the failed portions using available resources.

Noting the economic importance of Ogbemudia link road to the people of Isoko South local government, Asasa said, “The people of Oleh community, including other neighbouring agrarian communities transport agricultural produce to various markets through the road.”

He added, “Being a major road linking Oleh to Ughelli, and Ozoro to other towns and villages, the socio-economic importance of Ogbemudia express road cannot be overemphasized.”

Asasa stated that the remedial work was a temporary intervention by the council aimed at ameliorating the suffering of the people in the meantime, while waiting for DESOPADEC to embark on reconstruction of the road.

He added, “Isoko South local government is not expecting any refund of money spent on the road maintenance work. Isoko South council had to quickly intervene in repair of the road because it had been abandoned.”

“This is one of my developmental strides as a responsible government that swore to diligently serve the people that elected me to public office,” he stated.
