Anambra State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, was honored with the 2025 “Best Crime Fighter” award by Pechilly Investigative Limited.
The award ceremony took place Monday at the State Police Headquarters in a low-key event.
Pechilly Investigative Limited’s CEO, Amb. Karen James, lauded Orutugu’s efforts in combating crime, particularly the “sit-at-home” order, kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, and other offenses during his first three months in office.
Amb. James noted Orutugu’s victory in a comprehensive online voting process among security chiefs across Nigeria.
She emphasized the award’s intent to encourage his continued dedication and commitment to making Anambra a crime-free zone.
Amb. James also urged stronger collaboration between the Police and media for accurate reporting.
Commissioner Orutugu, in accepting the award, attributed the success to his team and other cooperating agencies.
He highlighted a significant reduction in criminal activities, particularly the “sit-at-home” protests, during his brief tenure.
He appealed to Onitsha and Nnewi traders to cease supporting those enforcing the “sit-at-home” order.
Mr. Orutugu also expressed gratitude to the Military, DSS, Civil Defense, Nigerian Navy, immigration service, Anambra Vigilante Group, Udo Ga Achi and Agunechembra operatives, and the media for their support in the fight against crime.
He also thanked Pechilly Investigative Limited for the recognition and the ceremony was overseen by State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
