The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Capital Territory Development has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the ongoing transformation of the state capital through massive infrastructural investments and strategic urban renewal projects.

The Committee Chairman, Hon. Benson Obire, gave the commendation when he led members of the committee on an oversight visit to Asaba to inspect key projects being executed by the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA).

Hon. Obire, who represents Warri South II Constituency, said the Governor’s infrastructural drive reflects the practical implementation of the MORE Agenda, describing the visible progress across the capital territory as a testament to purposeful and visionary governance.

He also lauded the Director-General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, and his management team for their effective implementation of the 2025 budget. According to him, available records indicate over 80 percent budget performance, a reflection of prudent resource management and transparency in service delivery.

Obire explained that the oversight visit formed part of the legislature’s constitutional responsibility to evaluate the performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in line with budgetary provisions approved by the Assembly.

During the visit, the lawmakers, accompanied by the DSCTDA management team, inspected several projects, including Chris Abudei Street, Ogbueshi Onochie Street, and the Asaba International Market being developed by EFAB Properties.

Other inspected sites included Okwe Market/Umuapa Quarters Road, St. Theresa Catholic Church Road, Old Oko Road in Okwe, ongoing flood control works at Ogbe-Ilo and Ugbomanta Street, the drainage channel linking Ogbe-Ogonogo Market to Otu-Ogwu Bay, and the Ogbeogonigo Modern Market under development.

While assessing the projects, Hon. Obire urged residents to support government efforts by protecting public infrastructure and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage channels. He warned that such actions could undermine flood control measures and damage newly constructed facilities.

In his response, Mr. Patrick Ukah, Director-General of DSCTDA, thanked the lawmakers for their visit and commended Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering support and commitment to transforming the state capital.

Ukah noted that the agency’s achievements were made possible through the Governor’s visionary leadership and consistent funding support.

He reaffirmed DSCTDA’s commitment to the MORE Agenda, emphasizing its goal of delivering a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful capital city.

He described the oversight exercise as a valuable initiative that promotes transparency and strengthens collaboration between the Executive and Legislature.

Also speaking, Mr. Nyekesi, a representative of EFAB Properties, disclosed that the new Asaba International Market designed to accommodate over 600 shops, would be completed on schedule.

He added that the project would significantly boost commercial activities within the capital city upon completion.

Members of the oversight team included Hon. Festus Utuama, Hon. Spencer Owhofa, Hon. Matthew Omonade, and Hon. Bino Obowomano.

According to the DSCTDA, the oversight visit forms part of ongoing efforts to promote accountability, effective governance, and sustainable urban development across the Delta State Capital Territory.
