Delta State Works Ministry organises capacity building for Staff

In line with the Delta State Government policy on ensuring adequate capacity building for civil servants for productivity and high performance, the Ministry of Works, Highways and Urban Roads has organised a two day in-house training/workshop for administrative and executive officers on salary grade level 07 – 10 in the Ministry.

The two day workshop held in Asaba covered areas that are very relevant to officers such as; overview of the civil service, civil service commission regulations and public service rules, drafting, minuting, memo and report writing techniques, effective communication among others.

The Director Highways/functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Solomon Aghagba at the opening ceremony thanked His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for organizing the training/workshop, describing it as first of its kind.

“Permit me to mention that workshop of this nature is the first of its kind in the history of the Ministry of Works. I therefore use this medium to express profound thanks to His Excellency, the Governor and Management of the Ministry for organizing the training/workshop.” He said.

According to  him the workshop is timely as it availed officers in the cadre the opportunity to be trained, in order to ensure their effectiveness and efficiency in the performance of their duties.

He encouraged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity.

“I urge you all to take very serious advantage of this workshop as some of you may not likely in the remaining years of your service have the opportunity to undergo training in these areas which are core prerequisites you need to function effectively.” He noted.

He expressed his pleasure at the level of organization and content of the training/workshop in particular he noted that the resource persons were drawn from seasoned retired and serving Directors with proven records and wealth of experience.

The functioning Permanent Secretary urged the participants to put to best use the knowledge they acquire in the discharge of their duties to the pride of the Ministry.

Earlier the Director Administration in the Ministry, Mr. Onajomo Ideh commended the Honourable Commissioner, Comrade Reuben Izeze, the retired Permanent Secretary, Engr. Dr. Mrs. Juliet Aboloje, and other Directors in the Ministry for their support in ensuring the organization of the training/workshop.

He enjoined participate to reciprocate the kind gesture of Government by putting in their best in duties that are assigned to them.

Mr. Ideh further appreciated His Excellentcy, the Governor for providing a conducive working environment for civil servants in Delta State.

Also present at the occasion were the Director Planning research and statistics Min. of Highways and Urban Roads, Mr. Kensington Mordi, Director Urban Roads, Engr. Victor Oputa, Director Planning, research and statistics Rural and riverine roads, Mr. Sunday Gbetsere and other deputy directors in the Ministry.

The lecture/workshop had as participants 17 officers on salary grade level 07 to 10 drawn from the administrative and executive cadre.
