Father’s Day Celebration: CMO visits and supports.Old People’s Home

As part of this year’s Father’s Day activities, the Catholic Men Organisation of St. Joseph Pro Cathedral Catholic Church, Asaba visited the residents of St. Joseph Old People’s Home, Asaba to mark the occasion and extend support to the elderly.
The Chairman Catholic Men Organisation (CMO), Sir Greg Okolo who led other members said that the essence of the visit was to interact with the residents of the Home and reaffirm their commitment to the welfare and well-being of older citizens and less privileged.
” As members of CMO we decided to visit the old people who we consider to be our mothers as a prelude to our forthcoming Father’s Day.
“Also we want to use this medium to thank you all for being good mothers and always standing behind us.” He said.
He further noted that in appreciating them as mothers, the CMO is giving a token financial assistance aimed at supporting to improve the comfort and care at the Home.
Sir Okolo also said that the gesture will not be a one off thing but that they will endeavor to sustain it.
In her response the Administrator of St. Joseph Old People’s Home, Asaba, Sister Anna Adebayo OLA said that the Home is charged with the responsibility of taking care of old women, particularly those that does not have people to cater for them.
According to her the home solely takes care of them without recourse to their family members if any.
Sister Adebayo said that they get support from well meaning individuals towards the care of the residents.
She equally added that they extend care and support to non residents that are aged , less privileged and vulnerable whom they provide for on a monthly basis.
Speaking on the challenges they face in the Home she said it’s basically inadequate health care and insufficient basic provisions for their upkeep.
She however, prayed that well meaning individuals and organisations will support the Home towards meeting their set goals.
One of the residents of the Home, Joyce Oshodi Osahenti commended the Sisters and Management of the Home for their care towards them.
She called on well meaning individuals and organisations to support the Home so they can continue to cater for the Old People, less privileged and vulnerable in the society.
On his part the Chairman Planning Committee and Vice Chairman CMO St. Joseph Pro Cathedral Catholic Church, Asaba, Mr. Sylvester Iloba said that the visit to the Old People’s Home is part of the activities mapped out for the celebration of this year’s Father’s Day.
According to him other activities are; full participation in the celebration of the holy mass e.g. handling the activities of the choir, Lectors, church wardens, announcer.
Other activities lined up according to him are ; distribution of refreshments to the children, medical outreach and get together for all men in the Parish.
Mr. Iloba enjoined all Parishioners to be part of this year’s Father’s Day Celebration.
Also in the CMO delegation was Barrister Joseph Emejom, member planning committee and CMO Legal Adviser.
The visit forms part of ongoing community engagement efforts tied to the Father’s Day Celebration, 2026, focusing on recognition and practical support for the elderly, less privileged and vulnerable in the society.
