Aguleri/Umuleri For Peace Initiative Resolve Communal War, As Lawmaker Set To Empower 3,800 Youths

THE Youths under the new name of Aguleri/ Umuleri For Peace Initiative in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State has resolved that the two Communities have decided to end the over twenty years communal war in the area.

Speaking shortly after a meeting between the Youths of the two Communities at Otuocha Council Headquarters the Spokesman of the Youths Mr. Echidiegwu Ginikanwa said that in the last twenty years or more the number of losses to the war which include human lives and property run into billions of naira describing the war as senseless.

“The war is senseless and uncalled for and some people who do not want peace in our land have been gaining from it and have refused the war to end.

“We the youths of the two Communities have resolved to put an end to this senseless war and we are making our official presentation before the Traditional Rulers of Anambra East Local Government Area.

Similarly the Lawmaker representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency Chief Chinedu Obidigwe has commended the youths of the two communities for embracing peace promising to embark on youth empowerment of over 3,800 in the area.

According to him, this is a welcome development and the Youths of Umuleri and Aguleri have my blessings.

Already I have put in place empowerment schemes for the youths and women in the communities that make up Anambra East and West Federal Constituency which has been ongoing in the area of apprenticeship, vocational education and agricultural program which started since last year and this year more programs aimed at cushioning the effects of the war in our communities would come on stream targeted at one seventy youths per community, he stated.

Also speaking the traditional rulers of Anambra East Local Government Area, Igwe Mike Idigo of Aguleri, Igwe Lawrence Nwofia of Aguleri Otu, Igwe Joseph Mbanefo of Okpu Nado, Eze Chukwuemeka Eri and Igwe Ekwealo commended the Youths for the Peace Initiative noting that the new found peace would encourage development in the area.

The Aguleri and Umuleri Youths would be holding a Youth Peace rally on July 17, 2021 with the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano who is from Aguleri in attendance.
