Security operatives at the Bridge Head Market in Onitsha have apprehended two individuals accused of illegally collecting revenue from barrow pushers.
The suspects were caught at the Tools/Ogbogwu junction within the market area while attempting to flee. They were promptly taken to the Bridge Head Market union office for questioning.
Upon arrival, the two young men were handed over to the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the market, Hon. Chinedu Ezekwike, popularly known as Akwaeke Umuchu.
Expressing his displeasure, Hon. Ezekwike condemned the actions of the suspects, reminding them that the Executive Governor of Anambra State had placed a ban on the collection of daily tolls from petty traders, including barrow pushers, vulcanizers, and hawkers. He noted that the suspects’ actions directly defied the Governor’s directive.
During interrogation, Hon. Ezekwike warned the illegal collectors of the consequences of their actions and threatened to hand them over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
