The Anambra State Police Command has received advanced tactical teams from the Force Headquarters to bolster security ahead of the November governorship election.

The deployment, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is part of the Force’s comprehensive operational plan aimed at ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free election across the State.

As part of the new security measures, helicopters and drones will be deployed for real-time aerial surveillance to complement existing ground patrols.

While welcoming the teams in Awka, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed gratitude to the IGP for his commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Anambra. He noted that the aerial monitoring initiative will enhance the activities of tactical units, intelligence operatives, and specialized squads stationed across all 21 Local Government Areas.

According to CP Orutugu, the enhanced security structure will focus on monitoring critical areas, border communities, and potential flashpoints while maintaining robust ground patrols and checkpoint operations. This combined strategy, he said, will strengthen visibility policing, improve intelligence gathering, and ensure rapid response to any security threat.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to collaborate with other security agencies, community leaders, and stakeholders to maintain peace and order before, during, and after the election.

He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines: 07039194332 or 08039334002.

The Anambra State Police Command assured citizens of its unwavering commitment to providing a safe and secure environment where residents can freely exercise their civic duties without fear or intimidation.
