Anambra State’s Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra State (OCHA) Brigade raided and shut down a factory in Obosi on Tuesday, seizing thousands of counterfeit disinfectants and soaps.
The illegal operation, located at 14 Chris Ugoezu, Odume, Obosi, was producing unregistered and unlicensed products mimicking well-known brands.
Authorities discovered a large stockpile of raw materials, including unlabeled chemicals and packaging, along with finished products ready for distribution.
OCHA Brigade Managing Director, Comrade Celestine Anere, confirmed the raid, highlighting the health risks posed by the substandard products.
He emphasized the State government’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal activities and its commitment to protecting public health.
The factory’s methods involved manual mixing and the use of thinners, according to investigators.
Local residents reported that the factory operator was secretive and largely avoided interaction with the community.
The seized products lacked NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) approval.
