Boko Haram Attacks Geidam

Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) – Mike SOGBOLA:

Boko Haram on Sunday attacked Geidam, one of the major town in Yobe state, forcing the residents into flight.

Many of the fleeing residents had to send the night in nearby bushes as the streets and homes were deserted.

A fleeing resident of the town, Ibrahim Mohammed said the insurgents attacked the town at about 6pm, with the sound of the gunshots making many to flee.

He said thousands of residents of the town fled into bushes with some others fleeing into neighbouring villages.

Ibrahim said sporadic gunshots were heard near the military base along Geidam-Bayamari road.

Another residents of the town Faltima Suleiman told our correspondent on phone that the gunshots subsided at about 8.30 pm.

Suleiman who spoke to our correspondent at about 10pm, said everywhere is quiet now, “and we believe that the insurgents have taken their leave.”

When he was contacted, Lieutenant Chinonso Oteh, Spokesperson of Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, Damaturu, said he has no information about the attack just yet but he would get back as soon as he can get any information from Geidam.
