Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Monday commissioned 147 public buildings put at a total cost of N1.45 billion in Yobe state.

This is part of efforts at reconstruction of the Boko Haram affected state after destruction from the decade old crisis.

Speaking at the commissioning of some of the projects in Potiskum, one of the largest town in the troubled state, the Executive Director of VSF, Prof. Sunday Ochoche said: “We have expended about N1.45 billion in building projects across Yobe state alone in our effort to rebuild the Northeast geopolitical zone after the destruction that came with insurgency.”

He disclosed that the projects were executed across 11 local governments in Yobe State.

Ochoche said the renovated structures include hospitals, primary and secondary schools, local government secretariats, local education authority buildings, a local government lodge and deep water boreholes.

He noted that the intervention aimed at promoting the re-establishment of local governance and restoration of basic social amenities; and creating an enabling environment for return and accelerated recovery.

He revealed that the 11 beneficiary local governments include Potiskum, Fika, Gulani, Geidam, Yunusari, Tarmuwa, Gujba, Busari, Fune, Damaturu and Buni Yadi.

He promised that Victims Support Fund will continue to strive to bring succour to victims all over Nigeria while also ensuring that resources are utilized judiciously in the execution of all its projects.

Ochoche said: “We herby appeal to the state government to ensure the maximum and optimal use of the facilities.”

Responding, Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam said the government and the people of the state cannot but appreciate the effort of the Victims Support Fund in all it’s initiatives across Yobe State.
