Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –From Michael J. EKOKORUWE:

THE major bridge to Uzere kingdom in Isoko South local government area and other Ndokwa East reverine Communities of Delta State has caved – in and commuters have resorted to alternative routes tor their destination.

The visit to the area by our correspondent indicated that a section of the bridge has caved – in as vehicles and motorcycles coming from Emede, Oleh and other Isoko Communities to Uzere turned back to seek alternative routes, just as those coming from Uzere axis could not access the road.

Speaking to newsmen, the former president general and patron of Isoko Development Union, High Chief Iduh Amadhe, appealed to the state government for urgent respite as the devastation is more than what the local government council can handle.

Amadhe also called on the federal government, representatives of the area in the Senate and House of Representatives to urgently rescue the people from the sudden danger and suffering it poses Commuters in the area.

He described the bridge collapse as serious calamity to traders, oil company workers and farmers plying the road for economic activities, noting that it happened at a wrong time as the economy of the area has been shut down.

Amadhe urged Commuters to take alternate road through Aviara to Uzere, Asaba – Asa, Abari and other riverrine communities of Ndokwa East, adding that Aviara road is temporary, as flood may soon take over the area.

He noted that ‘No Uzere man expected the section of the bridge to caved – in”, stressing that farmers’ agricultural commodities will suffer loss due to transportation difficulties and appealed to the state, federal government and FERMA for urgent solution.

Also speaking, Comrade Edede Jonadab said, the collapsed bridge almost claimed the life of an okada man who fell into the collapsed section of bridge, but was rescued and taken to one of the nearest hospital for treatment.

He noted that the bridge caved – in as a result of constant flooding that has affected the topography of the area, which according to him led to the bridge collapse and appealed to the state and federal government to urgently re – construct the collapsed portion of the bridge to save further degradation and death of Commuters.
