The hearing, which will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Press Centre of the Assembly Complex on Okpanam Road, Asaba, is being organized by the Joint Committees on Special Committee on Bills and the Committee on Peace and Security.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Joint Committee and Majority Leader of the House, Hon. (Dr.) Emeka Nwaobi, the Assembly called for active participation and contributions from key stakeholders through oral and written submissions to shape the proposed legislation.

Among those expected to submit memoranda are the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ministry of Justice, and the state chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).

Others include the Delta State Security Trust Fund, the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, Directorate of Political and Security Matters, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), as well as stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.

The statement emphasized that all memoranda should be submitted in 30 copies, enclosed in sealed envelopes addressed to the Chairman, Joint Committee on Special Committee on Bills and Committee on Peace and Security, and delivered to the Clerk of the Committee no later than Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Hon. Nwaobi appealed to all invited institutions and stakeholders to take the public hearing seriously, stressing that their contributions are vital to the legislative process and to strengthening community security architecture in the state.

It will be recalled that the amendment bill was committed to the joint committee during the Assembly’s plenary on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, for detailed legislative scrutiny.
