DELTA ASSEMBLY PASS BILL ON CARETAKER COMMITTEES:

The Delta state House of Assembly has passed into law, a Bill for the establishment of Caretaker Committees of local government councils in the state.

The Bill which was considered clause by clause was passed at a sitting of the Committee of Whole House after setting aside Order 48 of the House rule.

Those to be appointed into the Caretaker Committees would not be eligible to contest the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

This development followed the lapse of tenure of Local government council chairmen on May 12, 2011.
