DELTA: IKPIDE–IRRI COMMUNITY CELEBRATES OKOWA’S 2ND-TERM INAUGURATION

*Commends Delta Govt For Infrastructural Development In Community

The people of Ikpide – Irri Community in Isoko South local government area of Delta State at the weekend celebrated the successful second term inauguration of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta State at the community town hall.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Omojefe Mike, president general of Ikpide – Irri community, commended the state government for the infrastructural development in the area. He noted that the construction of internal roads and drainages by the state government is about 80 percent completed.

Mr. Omojefe said, 30.05 kilometer of internal road was approved and awarded for construction as first phase of road projects in the community, adding that the second phase will commence but not aware of the kilometer to be awarded for construction.

On health facility, Mr. Omojefe thanked the Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for a functional health centre in the community.

He stated that medical personals have been deployed to the area to ensure effective health service delivery to the people of Ikpide – Irri community.

The president general also hinted on the ongoing water project in the community, saying that the construction of the water tank will soon be completed and water treatment device installed for water treatment before it will be ready for use.

Omojefe noted that the major problem of the community is land slide erosion that is gradually reducing the land space of the community yearly.

He said, about 700 meters of the community land space have been washed off by erosion through the river banks, adding that buildings are been threatened if urgent steps are not taken to address the situation.

Omojefe appealed to the state government to construct jetties and shoreline protection control measures to stop the erosion and safe the community from loosing buildings and land space to the river.

He called on the state government to complete about one kilometer road linking Triofani to Ikpide – Irri through Odi town in Bayelsa State to safe the community from been cut – off during the rainy season.

He stated that, ikpide Irri is an agrarian community with lots of farm produce that prefer the road in transporting their farm produce to the markets.

He also called on the state government to check the activities of herdsmen destroying farms, resulting into clashes between farmers and herdsmen at Ikpide – Irri community.

Omojefe said, sometime ago the community lost an indigene of the community killed by a Fulani herdsman and till today nothing was done about it.

Mr. Rumanus Emuhowho Agbaga, Ikpide – Irri community chairman, while corroborating the president general, commended the state government on the community rural electricity board which is the only source of light to the people.

Agbaga maintained that, the state government bought two generators which according to him are not working except the new one bought by one of their illustrious sons.

He noted that the state government through same illustrious sons has recognized Ikpide – Irri community in infrastructural development and believes that with the successful inauguration of the second tenure of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, more projects will come to the community.

The celebration featured dancing, festivity’s of eating and drinking even as wrapper’s of different colour in bundles were distributed to both indigenes and non indigenes residing in the community.

In attendance was the chairman of People’s Democratic Party of Isoko South, Mr. Raphael Oderewu, the vice chairman and other political stalwarts from Isoko South local government area of the state among others.
