Delta Plans Olympic-Size Swimming Pool @ Oghara ***Equips Health Facilities

Delta State Government has approved the construction of a modern Olympic Swimming Pool at Oghara in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state at the contract sum of N463, 366,961.21.

The State Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah Esq., disclosed this while briefing the press at the end of the state Executive Council meeting in Asaba.

Barr. Ogeah said that the initiative was in line with the 3 point agenda of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan administration.

He stated that the council also approved the appointment of Mathew Igere as the Okobaro of Otujeremi Kingdom, adding that his appointment took effect from May 31, 2011.

Barr. Ogeah also disclosed that the total sum of N100, 474,416.94 million was approved for the provision of medical equipment in some selected hospitals in Aniocha South  local government council of  the state, saying that over N109 million was equally approved to equip of some hospitals and health centres in Ethiope East  Local Government Area.

Also briefing, the Commissioner for Heath, Dr. Joseph Otumara said that the hospitals and health centres to be equipped in the two local government areas included the general hospital, Ogwashi-uku, health centre in Ubulu- uku as well as the Federal Hospital, Eku among others, adding that Government had previously embarked on similar equipping of hospitals in Ika South, Oshimili South, Warri South and two other local government areas in the state.

Dr. Otumara stated that about 15 doctors who had not been confirmed had been sacked following their participation in the on-going strike embarked upon by their colleagues in the medical profession, saying that government had already replaced them, even as he said that the new doctors would start work as soon as possible.

He said that those who had already proceeded on their annual leave as well as other doctors, who were on maternity leave, had been exempted from the strict penalty.
