Egugbo Bags SSA Media Appointment

COMRADE (Sir) Fidelis Egugbo has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the 4th Governing Council, School of Health Technology (DESCOHTECH), Ofuoma-Ughelli, Delta State.

According to a letter signed by the Registrar cum Secretary to Council of the institution, Favour Nwakocha, the appointment takes immediate effect.

Egugbo has more than twenty years experience as a Journalist and worked on the stable of The Pointer Newspaper where he was the Show Business Editor for more than nine years and at a time, was the Correspondent in charge of Ministry of Health, Housing, among others.

He was a columnist who anchored ‘My Pen & I’ where he delved into several issues, moulding public opinions.

Comrade Fidelis Egugbo has held several positions of trust in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the successes he recorded as the Chairman, NUJ, The Pointer Chapel, a position he voluntarily resigned to pursue other endeavors would remain indelible in the history of Unionism in that organization.

Before his recent appointment, Comrade Egugbo, who is happily married and a Knight of the sacred Order of St. John International (KSJI) was The Pointer Newspaper’s Chief of Bureau, Government House, a position he has used to serve Deltans meritoriously; religiously, publishing a page material in The Pointer every Sunday in the Column, Government House Watch.

He has been in Government House since 2004 as the Correspondent, Deputy Governor’s office during the time of Chief (Sir) Benjamin Elue, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) and joined former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in January 2014 before he was inherited by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

His 868-page book, ‘Memoirs Of A Journalist In Government Media,’ which he presented as a gift to humanity during his 40th birthday is a delight of Journalists in particular and those who want to research on the activities of Delta State government. The book is not for sale.

He has a Masters of Science degree in Public Relations from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Delta State University, Abraka, National Diploma in Mass Communication from Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology, Enugu and a Professional Diploma in Management from the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Last Friday, he stormed the Social Media space when he pasted on his Facebook wall the following: “OPPORTUNITIES BECKONS!
“To God be the glory, I have received letter of appointment as the Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the 4th Governing Council, School of Health Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli which has Dr. (Pharm.) Nelson Ejakpovi as its Chairman.

“It is a new challenge but not in variance to what we are known for – Pen pushing and I use this opportunity to thank God for making it possible for me to work with the likes of Chief James Onanefe Ibori, Chief (Sir) Benjamin Elue, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama (SAN), Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan (CON) and Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, not leaving out personalities and individuals that have played different roles in my more than 20 years as a practicing Journalist.

“I am grateful to a friend and brother, Dr. Ejakpovi; members of the Governing Council, Dr. Chris Oharisi and Hon. Sunny Tatabuzogwu. To the entire management, staff and students of DESCOHTECH, Ofuoma, I say, thank you.

“To my people, especially, respected colleagues in the Media, this is for us and I seek your cooperation to succeed. Those in The Pointer family, I know you will always be there for me. I say, thank you and to the Press Family in Government House, I lack words to appreciate our relationship and I know you guys will always be there for me. Thank you.

“Again, I give thanks to God Almighty for His blessings as I am confident of His guiding my steps as I sojourn in this new turf through His son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen!”

The above has elicited more than 100 congratulatory messages as at the time of filing this report.

We are confident that Comrade Egugbo who has been in the field with the cooperation of his colleagues in the Journalism profession will project DESCOHTECH activities to the world.
