Egugbo’s Book Launch: Nigeria Civil War Veteran Gives Recipe For National Growth

20131013-062155.jpgNIGERIA civil war veteran and renowned author, Brig.General Godwin Alabi Isama (rtd), has laid out a four-element pathway to sustainable development of the Nigerian nation.

Isama, at the launch of the ‘Memoirs Of A journalist In Government Media’ authored by the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), The Pointer Chapel, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, at the Press Centre, Government House, Asaba, said that though Nigeria had a good future, it required an infallible pathway to sustainable nationhood.

He listed the elements of the pathway to include a credible constitution that would yield a credible polity; an efficient police force that guarantee national security on a sustainable basis; an efficient and time-compliant justice system and a virile press that will be ceaselessly motivated for effective public enlightenment.

20131013-062543.jpgAccording to Gen Isama, who was once interim Military Administrator of Mid-West State, “once we get the constitution and the politics right, every other thing will fall in place, in spite of religious and other concerns,” while the enablement of the Nigeria Police Force for enhanced efficiency such that it could guarantee, on a sustainable basis, national security would help the cause of effective nation-building.

He added that the constitution of joint military/police security outfits was a disastrous option that should be discouraged.

Isama stressed that a potent judicial system was vital for the entrenchment of sustainable nationhood since it represented the benchmark for the delivery of justice, on a cost-efficient run.

He described journalists as the last of the four elements of the pathway which required all-round enablement to constantly enlighten Nigerians on developments in the polity to enable the citizenry make consistently well informed decisions.

20131013-062555.jpgThe book reviewer, Barr Jimmy Ojei noted with satisfaction that the compendium of the author’s work containing interviews and features that span over a decade was written according to the standard of contemporary journalism, saying he considered the work to be novel in Delta State and Nigeria and a must read by all.

“The book portrays the various historical development of Delta and Nigeria and a socio-cultural contribution of the author to the growth and development of Delta State”, he noted.

The book presenter, Hon Ndudi Elumelu, represented by his Media Aide, Mr. Tony Anyaegbunam who unveiled the book, described the author, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo as a good story teller who balances his facts for the reader to enjoy.

The highlight of the book launch which was attended by the Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Charles Emetulu (Commissioner for Energy), Chief Nkem Okwuofu (Chairman, Local Govt. Service Commission), former General Managers of The Pointer Newspapers, Willy Bozimo, Chief Emma Ejiofor (Onishe of Ubulu), Prince Mike Oputa (member, House of Assembly Service Commission), Albert Ograka (Editor-In-Chief, Blank NEWS Online), Dr. Bonnyface Opia and staff of the Pointer Newspaper company was the cutting of the birthday cake by the celebrant and wife, Comrade and Mrs. Fidelis Egugbo who turns 40 years assisted by special guests.
