Erosion Devastates Akugbene, Delta Riverine Community, Causing Colossal Losses

AKUGBENE/ EROSION: Erosion can undermine community stability, causing social unrest, and straining local resources.

Erosion can impact negatively on the economy of the affected community as well as cause

infrastructural damage to roads, bridges, and buildings, requiring costly repairs and maintenance.

Erosion can lead to reduced crop yields, decreased agricultural productivity, and economic losses for farmers.

Erosion can also adversely affect tourism and recreational activities, affecting local economies and livelihoods.

Such was the devastating experience of Akugbene community in Bomadi LGA where a very massive portion of the land with a landed jetty eroded into the river. It was not a palatable sight as eye witnesses narrated the manner the jetty sank into the river. Residents narrowly could rescue the items the native rest house contained such as television and other items.

In a swift reaction to the community’s plight, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, member representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency at National Assembly and Engr Franklin Garry, CEO, NINOGAS who quickly rose to the occasion by providing temporary solutions to the eroded landscape.

The duo sent dredgers to dredge Sand,  providing gravels and other  relevant materials to cushion the effects of the colossal loss while pledging readiness to collaborate with government and other relevant authorities to provide permanent solution to the menace of erosion on Akugbene community

Reacting to their kind gestures, a legal practitioner,  Mr Patrick Ogele and Mr Garry Anthony  commended Nicholas Mutu and Engr Franklin Garry for their show of love and commitment to the welfare of the people of Akugbene community.

Speaking to newsmen at Akugbene community,  he expressed profound gratitude and prayed God to bless them, while urging other well-meaning Nigerians, Corporate organizations, sons  and  daughters to emulate these men that have demonstrated patriotism.

According to Mr Garry Anthony, Engr. Franklin Miebi Garry, CEO – NINOGAS NIGERIA LIMITED is a philanthropist who has severally met the needs of people. He has the technical expertise, he is willing and able to deliver a lasting solution to the erosion in the community, and other communities if given the opportunity.

He noted that Engr  Franklin Garry is looking forward to working with the State and Federal Agencies to deliver quality protection of the shores of Delta State Riverine communities.

Garry Anthony passionately appealed to the three tiers of Governments to collaborate  with their sons and daughters in diaspora  and tap from their wealth of knowledge and experience to reduce cost.
