Gov. Okowa Offers Job, Scholarship To Orphan, DELSU Best Graduate Of 4,252 Students

DELTA State Government has given automatic employment and scholarship to the all time overall best graduating student of the the Delta State University, Abraka, Mr Abel Jonathan, an orphan with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.91.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made the announcement at the 13th convocation ceremony of the University, where four thousand, two hundred and fifty two graduands for the 2017/2018 academics session received different academic certificates.on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

The governor challenged graduates of Nigerian universities to apply the knowledge gained to create a better and fulfilling future for themselves, their families and the society.

“Hard work, commitment and perseverance are the hallmarks and defining features of any citizen who is prepared for the challenges of our modern but, fast-changing society and it is expected that graduates of our universities have to apply the same virtue as they move into the wider society where they will use the knowledge gained to create a better and fulfilling future for themselves, families and society in general.”

Governor Okowa disclosed that his administration has ensured that even in the face of itsnomic downturns, the government strives to make funds available for the provision of education at all levels in the state.

He therefore observed that DELSU “has proved itself worthy in its commitments to the pursuit of its core mandate of research, teaching and learning.”

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire had in an address, said, “we have so far been fair and firm in line with academic best practices in the handling of matters relating to the discipline of staff and students,” while the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Victor Peretomode in his address, commended Governor Okowa for his support to the University.
