Gov. Soludo Hosts Archbishop Okolo, Calls For Unity, Understanding Among Various Denominations

From SUNNY A. DAVID:

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has advocated for unity and understanding among Christians of different denominations, with the aim of achieving a shared vision and mission.

Prof Soludo made the call when he received in audience, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Czech Republic, Most Reverend Jude Thaddeus Okolo at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

According to him, as the world faces various challenges today, promoting ecumenism becomes more important than ever.

The Governor highlighted the role of Christians in promoting peace and justice in the world, particularly amid the growing political and social tensions, stating on the need to work together in solidarity, compassion, and respect, to promote reconciliation and healing in communities and in the world.

Governor Soludo added that promoting ecumenism requires a commitment to learning about and respecting the various denominations in the Christendom.

Mr. Governor noted that each denomination has its own unique history, theology, and practices, which can enrich and broaden understanding of the christian faith, acknowledging that through celebrating the differences, unity and solidarity can be strengthened.

Responding, the Most Rev. Okolo revealed that there are various ways to promote ecumenism, including engaging in interfaith dialogue and collaboration, where different religious traditions come together to share their experiences, beliefs, and values.

This he said helps build bridges of understanding and promote mutual respect and tolerance, pointing out that supporting initiatives that bring together Christian denominations in worship, study and service is another way.

The Archbishop said that in promoting ecumenism, everyone is called upon to embody the values of love, compassion, and service that are central to the Christian faith, urging people to take up the call for unity and understanding, and work together towards a shared vision of a better world for all.

He also commended Governor Soludo on his giant strides in education reforms and other people-oriented programmes his administration is executing across the state.
