Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has paid glowing tribute to the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as an outstanding technocrat, dependable colleague and a refreshing influence within the Delta State Executive Council.

In a heartfelt birthday message on Saturday, Izeze reflected on his long journey through leadership, public service and mentorship, noting that while he had encountered many towering personalities from Uvwie and beyond who shaped his life and career, Ekedayen’s impact in his post-50 years has been particularly profound.

According to Izeze, Ekedayen possesses a rare blend of urbane sophistication, intellectual depth and practical compassion, which often leads to misconceptions about his political and economic orientation.

He stressed, however, that beneath Ekedayen’s refined exterior lies a progressive thinker with a clear, people-centred understanding of economics anchored on societal needs rather than rigid conservatism.

“Bros Sunny Ekedayen brings clarity to governance through a well-defined economics-of-needs template,” Izeze said.

“He is deeply grounded in his professional calling and in human relationships, making it easy for colleagues to relate with him, learn from him and trust his judgment.”

The Works Commissioner described Ekedayen as a globally acknowledged financial expert and a “guru of economics,” whose contributions within the State Executive Council have been invaluable.

He noted that Ekedayen has often played the role of a steadying influence and elder brother, offering guidance, support and coordination, particularly among Urhobo commissioners, without seeking personal attention or creating discord.

Izeze further praised Ekedayen for his humility and emotional intelligence, saying that in an environment often marked by inflated egos and superficial intellectualism, the Economic Planning Commissioner stands out as a breath of fresh air.
