LG POLLS: Obi Urges Partisan NURTW Members To Resign

20140704-091808.jpgAS the date for local government elections draws near in Delta State, members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who are interested in contesting for positions have been urged to resign.

Chairman of the Union in the state, Comrade Ifeanyi Obi made the call while speaking with Journalists in Asaba.

According to him, NURTW is strictly a Union for drivers and road workers and members who want to contest for elective positions should resign.

“We are not politicians, we can vote in elections as citizens of Nigeria but, we are not members of political parties, anybody who wants to contest for elective position in the forthcoming election is free to resign, you cannot be a member of NURTW and be contesting for general elections,” Chief Obi said.

Comrade Obi also used the occasion to urge politicians to be peaceful during the electioneering period, stating that members of NURTW cannot be used for shady activities.

“We as members of NURTW are peaceful, we are not thugs and we cannot be used for election malpractice,” Comrade Obi said.

He emphasized, “any of our members who is involved in election malpractice of course, will be sanctioned because, we are peaceful and law abiding citizens.”
