As workers across the world mark May Day today! Wednesday, May 01, 2013, Delta state government has broken a jinx of unending penury among some of its workers by approving the regularization of appointments of 1072 casual workers in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state public service.

According to a statement made available to Blank NEWS Online on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 tagged “Urgent Government Special Announcement”, the regularization of the appointments is in fulfillment of the governor’s earlier promise to workers to stop casualization in Delta State public service.

The statement therefore enjoined workers in the state to befome more dedicated, productive and innovative.

It could be recalled that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan had clamoured for an end to casualisation in Delta State public service, as well as multi-national companies by appealing to employers of Labour to do away with it.

The governor had loathed the trend by saying, “This is inhuman and unacceptable. There is no reason for it.”

The statement reads:

GOVERNMENT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly Deltans that His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan CON, Governor of Delta State, has approved the regularization of the appointments of a total of 1072 casual workers spread across Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State Public Service.

“The regularization of appointments is in fulfillment of His Excellency’s earlier promise to workers and this has put to an end the issue of casualization in Delta State public service.

“With this gesture of His Excellency the Governor, workers in the state are advised to be more dedicated to duty, productive and innovative.”
