Senator Chief Akpor Pius Ewherido (DPP) has gained legal victory over Chief Ighoyota Amori (PDP) on the April 9, 2011 Delta Central Senatorial Election won by the former deputy speaker of the Delta state House of Assembly, Ewherido.

Following the ruling, Senator Pius Ewherido (DPP) has been given the final go ahead to enjoy his victory as Senator representing Delta Central in the April 9, 2011 general elections.

The National /State House’ of Assembly elections tribunal sitting in Asaba however dismissed the case of Chief Ighoyota Amori (PDP) on the grounds that his application for pre-trial hearing was done in a written letter instead of a proper motion.

The Court therefore dismissed Amori’s petition on grounds of improper procedure in the application for pre-trial hearing. Amori has been appointed as Senior Political Adviser to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

The tribunal has also given ruling in favour of Hon. Peter Onwusanya (PDP) who was elected into the state Assembly after defeating Mr. Nwanze Oduah (DPP) in the Oshimili South House of Assembly elections of April 26, 2011.

The tribunal had earlier dismissed the petition filed by Solomon Awhinawhi (PDP), challenging the victory of Chief Austin Ogbaburhon (DPP) in the April 9, 2011 House of Representatives elections for Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency.

The Tribunal Chairman, Justice Yakubu Dakwak who had dismissed his petition following his (Awhinawhi’s) inability to serve his documents as required by the 2010 amended Electoral Act declared that “the petitioner and his petition are incompetent”.
