Graduands trained in Electrical Installation and Solar works in the Delta State Government’s Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) have received starter packs to begin their businesses in Electrical Installation and Solar Works.

At the handing out of the starter packs which took place yesterday Thursday January 13, 2022, the Programme Co-ordinator (STEP), Mr. Onyeisi Nkenchor, admonished the graduands to maintain personal discipline with special reference to the three keys to success learnt during the Entrepreneurship and Business Management Training (EBMT) such as “respect yourself,” “advise yourself” and “discipline yourself.”

On documentation, he advised them to give details of their home addresses and business locations so that they could be tracked to their homes and business premises to engender mentorship and monitoring of their businesses.

While congratulating the beneficiaries for the successful completion of the programme, he urged them to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the training. He stressed that the skills learned were not for formality but to make them better persons and great entrepreneurs.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ebakivie Oboraire, (Ughelli South Local Government Area) said she was unemployed for 12 years before her successful enrolment into the STEP programme in the 2020/2021 Cycle.

She expressed gratitude to God and the State Government for giving her the privilege to be trained and established with starter packs, saying that STEP programme has helped her to achieve her long age dream of training in electrical works.

“Governor Okowa through STEP gave me the opportunity to learn the skill of my passion because my choice course of study was Electrical Engineering, but was admitted to study Urban and Regional Planning. Electrical Installation and Solar works is lucrative, from installation, maintenance, assembling to installation of solar power. They are all rewarding.
“Now, I will no longer depend on my husband one hundred percent. I will have to support him to make our progress faster,” she enthused.

Also, Emeka Uzor, (Ika North East) an orphan and an OND holder expressed gratitude to the State Government for the opportunity. According to him, “With my starter pack, I shall start up a mini business. With the proceeds, I shall sponsor myself through HND and support my siblings too.”
