Rising to the wake up call by concerned Nigerians on the seemingly slurpy handling of terrorism situation in the North Eastern part of the country by the Federal Government and the International Community, the Nigerian military on Thursday, August 28, carried out airstrikes against the Boko Haram sect’s positions in Limankara and Gwoza in Borno State.

This is just as one of Boko Haram’s camps in Cameroon came under heavy bombardment by the Cameroonian army and killing many of the insurgents.

In Nigeria, hundreds of troops were also mobilised to the frontline in Gulak, Adamawa State against the insurgents.

A source disclosed that three military planes were sighted hovering and after a few minutes, they heard sounds of 15 explosions in the direction of Madagali, Limankara and Gwoza.

Other residents added that several armoured vehicles were deployed in Gulak between Wednesday and Thursday while military trucks conveyed soldiers to the town.

Recall that the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, recently released a video claiming to have created an Islamic caliphate in Gwoza which was seized by the insurgents earlier this month.

The insurgents had allegedly captured Limankara and some areas under Madagali LGA of Adamawa State as well as Buni Yadi in Yobe State and the Police Mobile Training Camp in nearby Limankara village.

In a similar development, one of Boko Haram’s camps in Cameroon has been bombed by the Cameroonian army, killing many insurgents.

A security official disclosed that the camp was shelled on Wednesday, August 27, by tanks stationed on the frontier at Fotokol (on Cameroon’s side of the border).

“Seen from Fotokol, Gamboru looks empty and smells of death. Nobody knows how many Boko Haram members were killed, but it is obvious that many were. We think they still control the town, because there are many of them and they didn’t all gather in the same place,” the source said.

This is coming less than a week after Boko Haram seized control of Gamboru-Ngala, a key township on the border between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Boko Haram fighters were reported to have crossed Nigeria’s border into Cameroon on Monday after attacking a military base and police station in Borno, North-eastern Nigeria.
