Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the former two-term governor of the State of Osun and Buhari’s minister of Interior, has broken his shell. He has chosen to speak out against his benefactor, mentor and Party leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Unlike the chick hatched out of its shell, Aregbesola felt unperturbed and worried less about where the “next meal” will come from.
He’s palpably angry about the arm twisting and the byzantine politics going on in his home state.
The former governor has a strong desire; that is, to enthrone Alhaji Moshood Adeoti as the next governor of the state against the powers that brought in the incumbent, Governor Oyetola. At least, this is the immediate cause of the feud that has set Aregbesola on the trajectory of “freedom” from his benefactor and mentor.
Nigerian politicians are an interesting lot. When it touches their interest, their emotions go anti-clockwise, ready to bite every finger in sight including those that fed and could still feed them.
The former governor declared that he was blindfolded to accept an incompetent candidate for the gubernatorial seat during the run-up to the 2018 election in Osun by his mentor. And now that push has come to a shove, he has to find his political destiny. What a sordid story!
Many have blamed Tinubu for raising men instead of institutions. They are of the view that when viable institutions are bequeathed to the next generation, such a leader or leadership can never be erased from the society’s hall of fame and the people’s conscience.
But our politicians loves and want those who will watch their backs and be at their beck and call when necessary. Isn’t that the nature of man for you? Bola Tinubu should watch out for such red flags of “disloyalty” as his campaign progresses. As for the party primaries on Saturday between Adeoti and Oyetola, let Osun APC members decide.
