Chairman, Asaba Shuttle, Comrade Rotimi Akinwale made the call yesterday while speaking with the Press when he paid a birthday visit to the state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Ifeanyi Obi in Asaba.

According to him the shuttle buses are not enough for people moving to and from Asaba to Okpanam.

“With the shuttle buses, passengers are happy and are thanking our Governor for providing the buses which have assisted commuters, but, we need more buses because some passengers will beg that the buses belong to them and they should be allowed to stand instead of waiting for the next bus,” Comrade Akinwale said.

He observed that Deltans are happy with the introduction of the buses as it has reduced transport fare from Asaba to Okpanam asserting, “we are happy, the Governor is doing a lot for us and the people want to patronise Uduaghan Buses but, the buses are not enough for the people, we honestly appeal for more Uduaghan Buses to be on the road.”

He added, “Governor Uduaghan is a man of the people and the Commssioner for Transport, Hon. Ben Ibakpa has tried to sanitize movement on roads through the road Marshals”.

He thanked Comrade Obi for repositioning the Union, stating, “today, we are celebrating Comrade Obi birthday because he is a good leader who has the interest of the people at heart, he does not discriminate or deceive people, he tells us the true situation and protect our interest as a true representative of the people and he is democratic in his approach to the leadership of NURTW.”

Comrade Akinwale disclosed that apart from passengers overwhelming the drivers, another challenge the Union is facing is Keke (Tricycle riders), saying, “most of the Keke riders need orientation on traffic rules as they drive without consideration for other road users and causes hold up on the roads.”

Comrade Obi thanked the Shuttle drivers for their support and charged them to be law abiding and avoid anything that will tanish the image of the NURTW.
