Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan, former governor of Delta State, has been described as a leader that bequeathed the legacy of making the welfare of citizens a prime objective of governance on which true accomplishments should be measured.

In a message to the former governor to celebrate his 71st birthday, Ogeah who was a Commissioner for Information in his second term, stated that human capital development, one of his administration’s three-point agenda, redefined governance.

“The human capital development component of his three-point agenda alongside peace and security as well as infrastructure development
encapsulated the essentials of quality living. And with his Delta Beyond Oil programme, Dr. Uduaghan is the first proponent of the imperative to diversify Nigeria’s economy, making it clear that economic growth is unsustainable if it is anchored entirely on crude oil. Thankfully, his idea has taken root even at the federal level.

“Dr. Uduaghan is a detribalised Deltan whose development impact was felt across the length and breadth of the state.

“He extended his humane disposition to his relationship with his associates and personal aides. On this occasion of his 71st birthday anniversary, I recall with nostalgia how he got his State Executive Council to celebrate my birthday which usually comes up a day after his even though most members of the Executive Council were more interested in celebrating him.

“As a medical doctor, his passion for the health of the people found expression in his free maternal care for mothers and infants from zero to five years programme, a first in Nigeria.

“On this day that he celebrates the age of 71, his legacy in advancing the health and wellbeing of the people of Delta State is unparalleled and will continue to endure. I will always cherish our time together under his administration for the purpose, policies and programmes that gave a sense of fulfillment to public service.

“On behalf of my family, I wish him a wonderful birthday and pray that the Most High God grant him excellent health and long life”, Ogeah stated.
