Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has congratulated, Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr Jim Ovia and Senator David Dafinone on their 2015 Vanguard Personality Awards as Businessman of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Awards respectively.
In a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, Governor Okowa extolled the leadership qualities and astute contributions of the awardees to the development of Nigeria and Delta State.
He described Mr Jim Ovia as an illustrious son of Delta State whose remarkable contribution to the banking industry in Nigeria is legendary and worthy of emulation.
“Mr Jim Ovia is an illustrious son of Delta State in whom we are well pleased. His astute contributions to the development of the banking industry in Nigeria as well as his efforts in pioneering the digitalization of banking services in Nigeria no doubt made Zenith Bank Plc a leader and pacesetter in the industry today.
“As a distinguished Deltan, he has grown the bank to the extent of having two Governors of Nigeria and that of the Central Bank to have passed through his tutelage.
“We are proud of his achievements and on behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate him on his award as the Vanguard Businessman of the Year 2015.”
In a related development, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has also paid glowing tributes to Octogenarian, accomplished accountant, administrator, erudite politician and scion of the Dafinone dynasty, Senator David Omueya Dafinone on his Vanguard Lifetime Achievement Award.
Governor Okowa noted that the remarkable contributions of Senator David Dafinone and family to the accounting profession is epitomized in the Guinness Book of Records as the Most Chartered Accountant family in the world.
“The Dafinones are known as the family with the highest chartered accountants in the world. The record is yet to be broken by any family worldwide and it is worthy of emulation. We are proud to identify with the family as Deltans on this Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed on their patriarch by Vanguard.
Governor Okowa also lauded Senator Dafinone for the huge investments in agriculture in the state and called on well meaning Deltans to emulate the octogenarian.
