Nigerian Government Condoles Namibia Over Death of President

The Federal Government of Nigeria has condoled with government and people of Namibia over the death of their president, Hage Geingob.

The Federal Government communicated its condolence in a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Francisca Omayuli.

The statement read: “The Federal Government of Nigeria extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved First Family, the Government and People of the Republic of Namibia on the passing of His Excellency, President Hage Geingob, in Windhoek on Sunday, 4th February, 2024.

“Late President Geingob was a Pan Africanist par excellence and a Nationalist who will be remembered for his contributions towards the attainment of his country’s independence in the year 1990. His developmental efforts as well as his legacy of positioning his country as a leading democracy in Africa will remain indelible in the annals of time.”

The statement added that: “The late President Geingob was a friend of Nigeria, who was deliberate in ensuring that relations between the two countries thrived at both the bilateral and multilateral levels. Nigeria is indeed saddened by his passing and stands with Namibia in this period of national grief.

“May his soul rest in peace and may God grant his family, the Government and the good people of the Republic of Namibia, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
