CKC Old Boys Hail Atiku On Choice Of Obi

*Obi Is Prudent In Management of Resources
*He Has Integrity, Fear of God, Believes In Rule of Law
*His Critics Are Enemies of Nigeria
The President of Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha, Lagos branch, Barrister George Onwubuya has hailed the presidential flag-bearer of  the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for nominating the former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi as his running mate in next year’s general election.
In a statement issued in Lagos, Barr. Onwubuya said the nomination has created positive aura around the candidature of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar which is seen as a well-articulated move to put Nigeria back on the path of growth and development.
Obi is  an alumnus of CKC, Onitsha who left an indelible record of prudent management of human and material resources in his eight years of  governance of Anambra state.  His performance has remained a benchmark of effective and efficient leadership in the annals of Nigeria’s political history.
Onwubuya described  Obi is “an accomplished banker and financial manager whose prudence in the management of labour and public funds is yet to be equaled”.
According to him, “Mr. Obi restored the dignity of Anambra people by the record of quality leadership he left in the state, which should be replicated at the national level for Nigeria to attain the enviable height that we desire”.
He said Mr. Obi is a “great asset to Alhaji Atiku in handling the economy as he was a key member of the Goodluck Jonathan’s team which managed Nigeria’s rebased economy when it was confirmed the largest in Africa.”
He noted that Obi “is a product an academic training that placed emphasis on discipline of character, moral rectitude and knowledge which is the guideline of all alumni of the College; we are proud of him and we have no doubt that he all excel, if his party wins.”
Another prominent alumnus, Hugo Odiogor Senior Prefect Class of 81 said, “After following his performance as the Governor of Anambra state, ” I believe that he will be the best person to fix Nigeria, mainly because of his penchant  for prudent management of resources which underlies his integrity, fear of God and belief in the Rule of Law”,
He said “I also believe that if Nigerian youth set aside religious bigotry and tribal sentiments to focus on who will provide food on their table,  create jobs to enhance their capacity to live quality life, Peter Obi is the man they need to support”.
The former President of Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazurike said the selection of Mr. Peter Obi as the running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a worthy choice
He said, “I have read with disgust the vituperations of the enemies of this country on the choice of Peter Obi as the running mate of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The complaints range from non-consultation to why the choice should be from the South East to the ridiculous protest of non-PDP members.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, very few people parade the intimidating credentials of Peter Obi. Again, very few people parade the integrity of Peter Obi. Furthermore, very few people parade the common sense economics of Peter Obi. Finally, very few people parade the ability of Peter Obi to overlook personal aggrandizement in public and private life.
“For those who wish Nigeria well, Peter Obi will bring a lot of good to the economic revival of this country. For those who are angry that they were not consulted, Atiku owes that duty to his party, not the South-East governors forum made up of other non-PDP group. For those who see Peter Obi as not likely to play ball, I say ‘good for you. He is not the run of the mill politician. Let’s keep Peter Obi the way he is’.”

2019 Governorship Polls: PDP Delta Force Vows To Mobilize Massive Support For Okowa’s Return

-By Albert OGRAKA:

The Delta state government has expressed its desire to collaborate with formidable political pressure groups that are desirous of utilizing their genuine strategies towards the successful re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the 2019 governorship election in the state.

The pledge was made by the Director of Protocol, Government House, Hon. Ifeanyi Eboigbe, when he received stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP Delta Force (PDF) who paid him a courtesy visit on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Unity Hall in Asaba.

Hon. Eboigbe, who was accompanied by the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, Chief Festus Ochonogor; DG Association of Community Youths, Innocent Esewezie and the Senior Special Assistant on Peace and Conflict Resolution, Hon. Jaunty Okwudi, commended the PDF for the bold step to give their unalloyed support to the SMART Governor of Delta state, adding that despite the optimism of winning the forthcoming elections with landslide victory, the state government will not leave any stone unturned.

While promising to give PDF the needed support because of their unity of purpose, Hon. Eboigbe appealed to the stakeholders and members to sustain their faith in Governor Okowa by intensifying their grassroots mobilization efforts, considering the PDF’s strength and strongholds in the various units, wards and local government areas across the state.

The frontline political pressure group of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta state, led by the state co-ordinator, Mr. Bassey Asiekwu, assured Governor Okowa that the PDP Delta Force (PDF) has already commenced the massive mobilization of youths in support of the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for a second term in office.

An address presented on behalf of the PDF by the Secretary, Mr. Ndubuisi Biosah disclosed that “PDF is a political pressure group made up of men and women who believe that governor Okowa has done enough to deserve a second term come 2019.There is no gainsaying the fact that since the emergence of His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa in 2015, the state has been witnessing rapid development in all spheres, ranging from human capital development to infrastructural development.

“In Delta State’s 27 years existence, we have never seen massive road construction like we have seen in this administration. The Asaba Airport now has about three carriers in operation as against it’s near abandonment in the past. It is on record that workers receive their salaries as at when due, a fit many states cant match. We know about all the efforts your good office has been making in other to make this government function at optimum level, particularly your concern about the youths.

“We don’t just vote and walk away, we defend our votes, for therein lies our paramilitary strength. Governor Okowa is a man who believes in the youths, and this he has shown variously in his youth empowerment programmes, Job creation and operations of youth bodies that were hitherto non existent. The PDF which is a youth body has taken serious cognisance of this and has decided to put our strength where our mind is. We have coverage in all communities and Local governments in the state and our foot soldiers have been mandated to start massive mobilization for governor Okowa. We have been hearing from those who speak with both sides of the mouth about the federal might the opposition wants to bring to bear. We want to sound a note of warning that Delta state is 100% PDP and an opposition that has done nothing for the welfare of Deltans cannot threaten the will of Deltans with a so-called federal might. We have instructed our foot soldiers to stay solid and fight to defend Ekwueme’s votes in all local governments come 2019.”

It will house 59 rooms all overlooking sea, garden or the 25-metre lap pool, and is being transformed by Mauritian architect Jean Francois Adam in collaboration with French designer Camille Walala. Well-loved for her bold tribal pop style and show- stopping spaces, Walala scoured the island for inspiration and talent to cherry pick the very best local craftspeople to design bespoke pieces for the project to create a space that introduces a fresh, playful design concept to the island without distracting from its breath taking beach location and surrounding nature. Local will be found in every nook and cranny – from the homespun ceramics in the restaurant to the handwoven beach bags and all-natural toiletries in every room.

How Gov. Okowa Is Advancing Democratic Dividend Through Enterprise Development In Delta

-By Ekemezie Becky

Across developing countries, including Nigeria, it has been empirically established that certain economic sectors and activities hold the greatest potentials for job and wealth creation. These include agriculture, agribusiness, agro-based industries, agricultural value chain services, vocational skills-based microenterprises, cottage enterprises, small and medium enterprises as well as public works such as environmental sanitation, housing and road construction. Other equally important areas are social and community services such as education and health services. This approach has been very effective in tackling unemployment and poverty in countries of South East Asia and Latin America.

It was in the light of the foregoing that the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made job creation and enterprise development the focal point of his now famous S.M.A.R.T agenda. Once in office, one of his first actions was the establishment of the Office of the Job Creation Officer, which would perhaps be more appropriately termed Enterprise Development Office. The strategy was of the job and wealth creation scheme is to put resources (skills, tools and complementary services) in the hands of unemployed youths/graduates and thereby empower them to become employed, earn incomes and create jobs and wealth.
After three years of running the scheme, the strategy seems to have worked out perfectly. At least 3,071 previously unemployed youths have been trained and established in their choice enterprises. Emmanuel Onochie, an indigene of Umuagwu quarters in Asaba was full of praise for the programme after his initial hesitation and scepticism. After being trained and empowered with a Starter Pack by the Delta State Government, Mr Onochie now runs his own business at No. 2 Agu Street, Asaba.
“After four years of graduation,” he recalled, “I had lost hope of staying in Asaba, and was already preparing to leave for Lagos in search of greener pastures. My friend, Ojiogo informed me of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s SkillS Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP). I was sceptical at first because I have applied for similar programmes in the past, but was not successful.

“I had made up my mind to relocate to Lagos so I did not apply for the first batch. As I was still in Asaba waiting for the Inneh Festival, one evening I watched on television as the first batch was being empowered. I decided to apply for welding and fabrication training and before I knew what was happening I received an SMS to come for my registration.”

That was how The story of Onochie, who got married last December, is the outcome of Governor Okowa’s vision of a new Delta, encapsulated in his enterprise development programme otherwise known as Job Creation Scheme.
Terry Ogolor, another beneficiary, told a similar story of zero to hero, grass to grace. “I am a graduate of Biology/Chemistry from Collage of Education Agbor,” he narrated. “Since I graduated in 2009 I had not been gainfully employed.” Mr Ogolor was at the verge of venturing into a life of crime when help came in the form of Okowa’s Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs programme (YAGEP). After initial hesitation, he applied and to his surprise and without any godfather he was enrolled into the programme.
“Today, I am a happy and proud fish farm owner at YAGEP Fish Farm Cluster, Ugbokodo Okpe,” he beamed with joy. “I can fend for myself, family and friends because of what Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa did for me. I am a consultant by experience. I help those with challenges in their fish farms and the pay is encouraging. I have grown my fish from 2,000 to over 4,000. The sky is my limit.”
Life of disability no doubt entails a lot of pain and suffering. It is a life that pulls the brake on a bubbling existence and reduces the energetic performer to a vegetable. While this is the general lot of the disabled, there are five young sisters in Ibusa whose fortunes have changed for the best. The Okolie sisters – Chinedu, Amana, Franca, Rita, and Linda – are physically challenged.  With Okowa’s STEP, they have moved from a state of hopelessness to one of joy and fulfilment. They are now entrepreneurs in fashion design and tailoring, Hairdressing and Makeover.
There is also Cynthia Oma Ehire, a STEPreneur, and the Chief Executive Officer of Oma Events and Oma makeover, in Sapele. Cynthia Oma stands out among her equals. Her ability to diversify into other affiliated enterprises other than decoration and event management in less than one year of establishment makes her a worthy brand ambassador of the Okowa’s job creation programmes. Indeed, the job and wealth creation scheme of the Delta State Government has turned around the fortunes of many young Deltans and birthing a new generation of entrepreneurs.
Launching the programme in August 2015, the Governor said: “The youth training and development is all encompassing and enduring in nature. It incorporates life skills training, mind-set change, leadership and business management skill necessary for our participants to become successful entrepreneurs … government is investing hugely in this programme and you will be doing yourself, your family and your community great disservice if you squander this opportunity.”
Professor Eric Eboh, the State’s Chief Job Creation officer, explained that “STEP is designed to train and establish unemployed youths in preferred skills or trades for the purposes of job and wealth creation.” According to him, “under STEP, unemployed youths undergo a three-phase training plan comprising life skills and orientation course, vocational skills training and business and entrepreneurship training.
“Currently, the skills or trades offered include computer hardware maintenance and repairs; catering and confectionary; electrical installation and repairs; barbing; bead-making; cosmetology, decoration and event management; hair-dressing and makeover; fashion design & tailoring; tiling; block molding; Plaster Of Paris (POP) and interlocking.”
Under YAGEP, Prof Eboh said “unemployed youths are trained and established in their choice agricultural enterprises, for example, poultry, piggery, fishery and crop production, adding that “the scope of training covers agricultural ‘subject-matter’ knowledge, enterprise management, leadership and life skills, group organization and group farming.
“Both theoretical and practical agricultural training take place at accredited agricultural training centres over a given period, depending on the enterprise. Participants are supported to establish and run their own enterprises through the provision of starter packs which in the case of livestock enterprises include livestock houses, operating facilities, amenities and inputs. In addition, participants receive buffer stipends during the enterprise gestation period and some working capital to purchase inputs and/or working materials.”
Following the resounding success of the scheme, many states of the Federation are now adopting the Delta State template for youth training and entrepreneurship development. More significantly, the World Bank and European Union –Assisted programme, SEEFOR project is providing funding support because “Delta State is the only State that has demonstrated its commitment to skills development in practical terms.”
Speaking at the Products Exhibition and Business Fair organised for beneficiaries of the scheme, Dr Tunde Adekola, a Senior Education Specialist in the bank, observes that “the World Bank will continue to support the Delta State Government in the areas of skills and technical development and will work with the Job Creation Office of the State Government to strengthen the labour market observatory system in order to make Governor Okowa’s dream of re-creating the middle class a reality.”
Governor Okowa ascribed the success of the scheme to “rigorous planning, discipline, focus, painstaking selection process, stringent guidelines, prudent management and commitment to set goals.” According to him, “we had to brave the odds and refused to accept the notion that the average youth in Delta was not ready to jettison the rent-seeking mentality and the prevalent culture of entitlement.”

2019 ELECTIONS: PDP WILL OUST “DIRECTIONLESS” APC FROM ASO ROCK –BASHORUN ASKIA

**HAILS ATIKU’S EMERGENCE AS PDP PRESIDENTIAL FLAG-BEARER
**LAUDS GOV. OKOWA’S TRANSPARENCY

-By Albert OGRAKA:

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta state, Bashorun (Hon.) Askia Ogieh JP, has expressed satisfaction in the way the Chairman, Planning Committee of the Special National Convention of the PDP and Governor of Delta state, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa successfully conducted the party’s Presidential primaries which gave rise to the election of former Nigeria’s Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the PDP Presidential flag bearer ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Bashorun Askia, who is the Executive Director (Finance and Administration) at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), described Governor Okowa as a true democrat and honest leader whose unwavering disposition to the practice of true democratic principles has yielded unequalled development and good governance in Delta state.

He explained that the peaceful disposition of the party’s presidential aspirants and delegates during the just concluded peaceful, credible, free and fair PDP 2018 Elective National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State is a clear and strong signal to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to be ready to vacate Aso Rock Villa for the PDP in 2019.

“The transparency and credible display of the organizers, aspirants and delegates have been applauded by Nigerians and the International Community. It is a very clear signal
of PDP’s readiness to take over power from the directionless APC”, he said.

While thanking other presidential aspirants for their political maturity and magnanimity in agreeing to work with the party’s flag bearer to rescue Nigeria from the chains of uncertainty, insecurity and near economic collapse which the ruling APC has plunged it in the past years of undemocratic and despotic leadership, Bashorun Askia boasted that the PDP has resolved to hearken to the yearning of Nigerians for a “rescue operation”.

He congratulated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on his victory in the presidential primary election of the Party, adding that his track records as former Nigeria’s Vice President, entrepreneur of great repute and consistent advocate of true federalism will help in moving Nigeria away from the doldrums towards an improved national economy, generally acceptable government as well as the security of lives and property of the citizenry.

He therefore called on all members of the party and all eligible voters in Nigerians, devoid of political inclinactions, to massively support the PDP and its flag bearers in the forthcoming elections in order to return the country to the part of good governance, rule of law as well as security of lives and property.

Delta Flood Victims On High: Gov. Okowa Sends SOS To FG, Organized Private Sector

Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has appealed to the Federal Government, organized private sector and individuals to urgently come to the rescue of victims of flooding in the state with relief materials.

Governor Okowa, who cried out during a resent visit to one of the Holding Camps in the staté, disclosed that he has observed that welfare packages for the victims have become unpredictably high due to increase in the number of people seeking refuge at the various Holding Camps across the state.

“We have been to several camps and you can see that members of the flood committee are working round the clock; in this camp, we have more than 1, 500 people and there are several camps set up in this area because, out of the 16 communities, 11 are under water which is a sad situation.

“Every other town that I have visited, the Holding Camps are in one school or the other but the schools in this area have been submerged; the water may take time to recede, I just hope the Federal Government will urgently intervene to complement what we are doing as a state.

“I must thank all Deltans who are touched and have donated one relief material or the other to assist the victims of the flood and I call on the organised private sector and individuals to please, if you have an extra, come to the aide of these victims,” he appealed”, Governor Okowa said.

The Governor who recently dissolved one of the Committees set up to run Holding Camps for victims of flood over poor welfare situation warned officials that the welfare of the displaced persons should not be compromised.

Okowa had earlier ordered the State’s flood Management committee to move into impacted communities and evacuate people who are yet to relocate to camps established for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

According to the governor, “this is an emergency situation, move the buses to the communities, use speed boats where necessary and comb all the impacted communities, bring out any of our persons remaining in those communities to the IDP camps.”

Flooding: 22 IDPs Camps Spring Up In Delta State  …Gets NEMA’s Commendation

As a result of the ravaging flood wrecking havoc in different parts of the country, about 22 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps have been set up in Delta State.
12 of the camps were created by the Delta State Government, while about 10 others were set up by communities and people that are not disposed to moving into the government Holding Camps which are not near their original places of abode.
The Flood Management Committee created recently by the State Government is however providing for the needs of the people in the private camps.
Speaking after inspecting some of the Holding Camps and areas affected by the flood, the Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Kayode Fagbemi, commended the state government for being proactive in handling the effects of the flood.
Mr. Fagbemi, who led officials of NEMA and those of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on the inspection, expressed satisfaction with what was put in place in the camps visited, adding that other  observations made have been passed on to the appropriate authorities.
He sympathized with the victims for the inconveniences they are suffering especially those who refused to move into government camps to avoid the unpleasant experience of 2012 when they lost valuable property to hoodlums who took advantage of the loneliness of the area to attack.
The NEMA Director noted that the effects of the flood in 2012 were more than that of this year because only few days notice was given then, unlike this year that enough notice of its coming was given and governments at various levels started taking steps to handle the situation.
In some of the camps visited, non indigenes were seen in large numbers because the camps are located in areas where the state share boundaries with other states.
During the visits, it was observed that adequate security, light, water, well stocked clinics, and other facilities that will make the victims feel a little bit comfortable were in place.

Ambode will emerge as APC candidate – Balogun Says governor will defeat Sanwo-Olu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Sheriff Balogun has thrown his weight behind Governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode, saying he is the best option.

Balogun, former Sole Administrator of Sururele Local Government Area, also dismissed the endorsement of Hon. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“It is a free world. Our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said it all. He has not anointed anyone. All the aspirants are his men. They are free to contest in direct primaries. He asked them to exercise their rights. APC faithful will decide whoever is going to be the gubernatorial candidate of the party” he said.

Balogun who spoke on Sunday at a gathering of APC faithful from the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Development Area Councils commended  Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other elders of the party for not imposing any individual on the people of Lagos State.

“The people here are for the governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode. We walked from Maryland to Freedom Park.  Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will win APC gubernatorial primary tomorrow. What happened at the Lagos State APC Secretariat on Saturday and what is happening here can tell Nigerians that Ambode has the support of APC members” Balogun said at Freedom Park.

He advised APC members to be steadfast.

“The people here are APC faithful. They want to vote Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday. They should also stand their ground. No one should be intimidated. The members should be free to vote whoever they want on Monday” he said.

Balogun who rejected the gospel of endorsement, urged APC leaders to support Ambode.

“We appreciate and respect our leaders. What is on ground now is democracy at play. They led us to this point. They said we should come out and express our rights. At the end of the exercise, whoever is victorious should be appreciated. We should rally round the person”.

Pledging commitment to a level playing ground, free and fair contest, Balogun described APC members as the major power brokers.

“Everyone is entitled to his opinion. The members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are APC members. They have the right to do what they want. However, the members of the party have the right to say this is what they want. It is the primaries that would decide who holds all the aces.

Balogun said Ambode was confident of victory.

“We are sure of victory” he added.

The immediate past speaker of the Delta state House of Assembly, Hon. Monday Igbuya has been suspended for three months over allegations of financial recklessness during his tenure as speaker.

Although, some free thinkers are claiming that the state executive is behind the former speaker’s travails because of his political inclinations, the state legislature has sustained its resolve to deal with Igbuya.

The Assembly has accordingly, set up a three-member ad hoc committee to review a plenary report of a committee earlier set up by it to investigate the matter during its executive session on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 which was submitted on February 27, 2018.

The suspension is to enable the ad hoc committee to carry out its assignment without interference.

Mr. Igbuya’s suspension came by a motion brought under matters of urgent public importance by the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere and seconded by the member representing Ughelli South, Hon. Rueben Izeze and unanimously adopted by the house at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Delta: Ebie, Ikem, Apokwu Tips Vocational Education, Training For Nat’l Growth

0
Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie has admonished teachers in the state to always update themselves through consistent training and retraining in order to be abreast with modern trends in teaching profession.

Mr. Ebie, gave the advice in Asaba during a-two-day capacity building workshop organised by Delta State Technical and Vocational Education Board in collaboration with the SEEFOR Project for teachers of Technical Colleges in the state.

The Commissioner, who was represented by his Special Assistant, Dr. Godwin Edozie decried lack of proper data confronting the education sector, adding that the State Governor, Senator(Dr ) Ifeanyi Okowa was irrevocably committed to repositioning Technical Colleges, just as he stated that immediately Governor Ifeanyi Okowa assumed office in 2015, one of the bills forwarded by the Governor to Delta State House of Assembly was for the revamping of technical education in the state.

In a welcome address, the Acting Executive Secretary, Engr. Smart Ikem noted that the exercise was aimed at putting the teachers ahead of their students, saying that nowadays, especially with the ICT in place many students tend to carry out research in order to put them far above their teachers.

Engr. Ikem maintained that there was need for Continuous Professional Development so as to improve the sector back to what was obtainable in the past years, and reminded the participants that their performance would be measured by the performances of their students, even as he enjoined them to take the training seriously.

Earlier in a goodwill message, the Project Coordinator of SEEFOR Project, Sir Frank Apokwu, who was represented by the Communication Officer of the Project, Emuji Magnus opined that technical and vocational education play critical role in the sustainability of the economy of any nation .

He said that the capacity building workshop was in fulfilment of the one of the three folds where SEEFOR Project supported technical and vocational education in the state and urged participants to translate the gains of the training into effective teachings for the overall benefits of their students, noting that through youth acquisition of skills the issue of unemployment was addressed.

In his presentation on the Overview of TVE Teachers and Instructional Competence in TVE in Technical Colleges in Delta State, Prof. Kenneth Of and Dr. Chuks Nwabudike who stressed the importance of the capacity building workshop, said that effective use of Instructional resources would enhance the knowledge of teachers as their students.

They advised teachers to motivate and engage at all times rather than sustaining the impression that some students were not teachable or were designed to perform poorly.

HOW TO DEFEAT PRESIDENT BUHARI IN 2019: An Open Letter To PDP Chairman

1

The best chance that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stands to sack President Buhari of the all Progressives Party (APC) is in 2019. If, for any self-inflicted reason, the PDP failed to remove the APC in 2019, it is not likely going to be able to remove the APC again for another fifty two years – that is assuming there would still be a party known as the PDP twenty months after if it lost (God forbid!).

In this epistle, I shall be discussing four steps to take to successfully disrupt, remove this sordid regime on May 29, 2019.

President Buhari appears not set for or interested about free and fair contest in 2019 – or even before then, judging by the reasonable apprehension of fear among Nigerians over the alleged rather palpable partiality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The nation’s Police, unfortunately, have been transmitting series of transmitting transmissions to suggest, without leaving many in doubt, that it is an interested party in the 2019 election.

But how can the people of Nigeria led by the PDP ensure the sacking of President Buhari on May 29, 2019 in the light of the above situation?

Before I go further, let me state clearly here that President Buhari no doubt appears to me to be a man with a golden heart to see that Nigeria is divested of corruption and corrupt politicians. Unfortunately, the President, based on empirical evidence of his tolerating – even celebrating evidently corrupt people who are with them or are blackmailed to join them – appears also to have only wooden, not golden, strategies to fairly or even actually enforce the golden ideas that could have birthed a corrupt free Nigeria.

As a result of the failure of the Buhari administration (same way as his former Buhari regime was said to have woefully failed in thoroughness or humaneness in the so-called fight against corruption) and the extant apparent penitence of the PDP over its 1999-2015 less than optimal stewardship to the Nigerian people, for which it was justifiably sacked by Nigerian people in 2015, it is now expected that the PDP, having learned a bitter lesson in power management, should now be invited by all Nigerians to return power to the people on May 29, 2019. It is hoped that the Party should continue the anti-corruption campaign of the outgoing APC administration, albeit with injection of three socioeconomic vaccines; Sincerity, Totality, Impartiality.

But what is the strategy to be adopted by the PDP to ensure that all her many aspirants each aptly qualified but apparently desperate, stay in the party to work the success after the primary – beyond wishful thinking or signing the usual undertaking that evidently lacks the force of law and over the years have been flouted after every election? I have developed a strategy, and it would be listed among the four steps I wish to suggest for ensuring that the forthcoming decisive primary of the PDP does not only not tear the party apart but also raise the revenue and solidarity base of the party. The following are my suggestions;

1. PDP must hold a very transparent primary election. If possible, direct primary. As much as possible, let the primary be held at the least contentious location. Ekiti would be such a nice idea and could demonstrate solidarity for the outgoing Fayose who was a great force for goodwill for the Party.  So that each delegate and aspirant would be assured of a level playing field, and the PDP would also enrich that state with their show of strength.

2. PDP should ban inducement of delegates of any kind and by any means. The Party should publish its budget for the welfare and logistics of each delegate and encourage each aspirant to make a donation to the central purse for this purpose and distribute this to the delegates equally. The Party should disqualify any aspirant who pays the bills of any delegate in whatever way or induces any delegate with money before, during or after the election. As much as possible, uniform dressings or any forms of unity lists should be banned – let each delegate be standing alone during the primaries and no state dressing should be allowed. If you want a different result, adopt different methods.

3. PDP should get all the Presidential Aspirants to sign a Presidential Aspirant Bond (PAB), deposed to on Oath at a High Court, with Affidavit including that they would stay in the party after the primary election and also work for the party or lose a Pledge Bond Deposit which shall be 40% of the budget that the Party estimates would be for the Presidential Campaign. This should discourage the jokers or those who, allegedly, have been planted by opposition for a spoiler game and this would also end the talk about moneybags. Getting 40% of each of about 10 aspirants would mean that the eventual candidate would have 75% more money than is needed for the campaign.  On the part of the Party and the Candidate, would undertake to give each of the aspirants certain named justiciable Privileges and Pledges, when the victory is secured. Everything should be written down and sealed on Oath, because Gentleman Agreements, from experience, seem not to work anymore among contemporary Nigeria politicians.

4. Each of the Aspirant should Sign a legally enforceable irrevocable document on Oath that the court should recognized his resignation from office in the event of his ever having to leave the Party before the end of the tenure he was elected to preside. Lawyers should not argue about the legality of this instrument but rather work towards its best application.

With the above four stratagem, and one secret strategy I would reveal only to the Chairman if he’s humble enough to ask, it would not be possible for the APC to resist the power of cohesion that would be among the Nigerian people when they decide to scream Enough is Enough, in 2019!

May God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Nationwide Warning Strike: Delta NLC Enforces Labour Strike Over Poor Wage

0

-By Albert OGRAKA:

The Delta state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NUT), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the United Labour Congress (ULC) have enforced the stike order of the organized national labour body, in a bid to strenghten the union’s current negotiation with the Federal Government for increased minimum wage.

The organized labour had announced the commencemen of a nationwide warning strike in respect of the non implementation of the national minimum wage, effective from midnight of Wednesday, 26th September, 2018.

A statement signed by the General Secretary of the NLC, Dr Peter Ozo-Eson, urged to all industrial unions and state councils under it to commence mobilization immediately for an effective strike action nationwide.

Delta state NLC Chairman, Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, on Thursday, September 27, 2018 told Blank NEWS Online that the Union is currently enforcing the warning strike across the state, adding that workers in both private and public offices are to abide by the strike order, as it affects all Nigerian workers.

In the meantime, most public offices and schools as well as few private institutions in Delta state are under lock and key because the organized Labour Unions have commenced picketing the private and public operational sectors.

According to him, “It is a total warning strike action embarked upon by the organized Labour Unions. Offices were locked up at 12:00 midnight and now we are moving around to ensure strict compliance to the seven day warning strike action.

Comrade Jemirieyigbe, who encourages the private sector workers to comply with the directive explained that “By virtue of the main minimum wage law, any employer than can employ above five persons is supposed to implement the law and they also stand to gain from the struggle.”

While calling for public support for the Unions, the sate NLC boss advised members of the public to remain calm and also join the organized Labour Unions in order to actualize the struggle.

Blank NEWS Online checks shows that workers who were obliviousness of the strike action were stranded discovering that offices were locked up and most public schools closed up with stranded students and pupils milling around the premises in several groups.

Some commercial institutions offered skeletal services with trepidation and anxiety, just as other commercial businesses and transactions were also affected, leading to a rising surge and grid in traffic in the early hours of the day.

PDP National Convention: Party Leaders Disagree Over Venue **As Gov. Okowa Heads Convention Planning C’ttee

0

There are indications that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are yet to agree on a venue for party’s presidential primaries fixed for Oct. 6, following a sharp disagreement between the leaders of the party on Monday in Abuja.

The disagreement between the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Working Committee (NWC) manifested at the inauguration of the party’s National Convention Planning Committee.

There was a  sharp disagreement between the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) ,Sen. Walid Jibrin , and the National Working Committee (NWC) over the choice of venue.

Inaugurating the committee, PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) Elder, Yemi Akinwonmi, said that the party leaders had consulted widely on the venue and agreed for Port Harcourt, River.

“On the issue of venue, the party set up a committee headed by Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure and they went round the South-South Zone and South-East Zone before coming out with the choice of Port Harcourt for us.

“As in acceptance, the National Working Committee (NWC) has consulted widely with the PDP Governors forum, we have consulted widely with the BOT, cacaus of the party and today it has been jointly accepted that we will converge on Port Harcourt, in no distance time for the National Convention.”

Akinwonmi added that the international community had expressed their interests in the party primaries.

“Particularly they said they Want, to come and watch the process the will lead to the emergency of our flag bearer, because by the grace of God our flag bearer will be the next President of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) , Sen. Walid Jibrin, in his remarks said that the party had yet to make final decision on the choice of venue for the convention.

“Even though the Deputy Chairman said the issue of venue had been concluded, I want to say that the issue of venue is still on and is not concluded.

” Because there are many suggestions on the issue of venue. We look at all suggestions and I assure you that the issue of venue will be resolved.

“But for now we are working around the clock to ensure that we have a very suitable venue accepted by everybody.

“I want to say that everyone of us should come together and ensure that we have a venue suitable to all of us.”

Intervening on the matter, the secretary of the convention committee and Ebonyi  Governor, Dave Umahi, said “I think the working committee and the BOT need to settle this.”

Chairman of the convention committee, Ifeanyi Okowa, also speaking on the matter said PDP was ready to host the convention in any state eventually agreed on.

Okowa said that no matter where the convention was settled for PDP would do what was right.

“I believe that at the end of the day, nobody will have any cause to complain.”

Okowa, who appreciated the party for the assignment given to them said that they knew that the party was in very critical moments in the history of the nation and the PDP.

“We do understand that the assignment that you have given us is about the most important assignment in the history of this party at least for this year.

“All of us believe that the only way forward is for the entirety of the party to stay united and focused. And as such, as members of the PDP, we cannot afford to disagree on any issues.

“The thing that is needed is for a free and fair primary to be conducted for all our aspirants. And we are very definite that we will get it right.”

Cricket: Survey Reveals 51% Of People In Gulf Countries Love Game

0

-Cricket is second only to football in the region –
-Survey commissioned by UAE Exchange –

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Cricket’s popularity is striking in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a demography that has historically been inclined towards football.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is the political and economic alliance of six Middle Eastern countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman.

According to a pan-GCC YouGov survey commissioned by UAE Exchange, more than half (51%) of the people participating in survey from GCC are cricket fans.

To understand where cricket stands in terms of popularity, the sport was compared with other popular sports such as Football, Tennis, Formula 1 and Basketball.

Cricket enjoys a massive fan following in the GCC countries. As per the survey, 57% people in the UAE, 38% people in Bahrain, 37% in Oman and 45% people in Kuwait are fans of the sport.

“As the title sponsor of Asia Cup, Unimoni aims to engage with customers through a widely followed sport like cricket. Engagement is a two-way dialogue for us, which is why we commissioned a YouGov survey to understand how our audiences feel about cricket, and what they expect from the tournament,” said Rahul Pai, Chief Operating Officer of Unimoni Group.

“The survey reflects the growing popularity of cricket in the REGION, with more than half of the respondents turning out to be fans of the game. It’s really interesting to see that 32% of cricket fans in the region chose cricket as their preferred sport, a very close second to football, which garnered 34% of the votes. This reflects the cultural diversity in the GCC countries which is promoting the exchange of values, especially those of sports,” Rahul continued.

When asked which cricketer will emerge as the top player in the Unimoni Asia Cup, 18% of respondents across GCC voted for India’s batsman Rohit Sharma, while 15% voted for Pakistan’s bowler Hasan Ali.

The first Asia Cup was hosted in Sharjah in 1984. The sport has since then seen significant increase in followership, resulting in increased investment in cricket facilities across GCC. The UAE is home to three state-of-the-art stadiums in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

“As a brand that facilitates seamless money movement across geographies, we are proud to be part of Asia Cup, sharing the excitement of cricket with fans in the region and around the world,” Rahul concluded.

Flooding: Dame 0kowa Rekindles Hope Of IDPs In Asaba Camps

0

**Peaches God’s Love, Donates Relief, Food Items To IDPs

-By Albert OGRAKA:

In a bid to assuage the predicaments of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as a result of the current flooding in parts of Delta state, wife of the state Governor and founder of 05 Initiative, Dame Edith Okowa has presented relief items to IDPs camps in the state.

Although, the action was complementary to that of the state government, corporate organizations, politicians and public spirited individuals, the 05 Initiative’s humanitarian gesture stands out because of the genuine, exemplary and sustainable posture of the Non-Governmental Organization.

*Reads Riot Act To Coastal Residents

-By Albert OGRAKA:

The Federal Government of Nigeria has designated Delta State as National Disaster Zone with three other states of the country, following the ravaging flood that has continued to submerge coastal communities in the state.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo made the pronouncement in Asaba on Thursday, September 20 when he inspected flood ravaged communities in the state, alongside the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige.

This development has however heightened fear and panic across the state, especially as most affected people find it difficult to move from their riverside communities to the populated uplands, due to poverty in the state and country.

“We are trapped in our communities. Government has said we should move out. Should we fly from the riverside to the upland with our loved ones? There is no money to move out and we cannot continue to wait until government officials arrive late when the whole place is flooded already,” a sad Deltans grieved.

The Vice President, who expressed satisfaction with the proactive measures taken by Governor Okowa’s administration to reduce the effect of the flood on the people who were at the impacted communities said, “I am very touched seeing these persons who are affected by flood, I know how disruptive it is for those who are affected.”

Speaking at one of the holding camps set up for the displaced persons in Asaba, Oshimili South local government area of the state, Prof. Osinbajo said, “I thank the Governor of Delta State for setting up this holding camp, the facilities are adequate, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the next 24 hours, will send relief materials to the state,” Prof. Osimbanjo said, disclosing that following the effect of the flood, the Federal Government has designated Delta State as National Disaster Zone with three other states of the country.

The Vice President assured that the Federal Government will not only contribute to ensure the welfare of the flood victims while they are at the holding camps but, will work to properly resettle them in their communities after the flood must have receded.

Governor Okowa who accompanied the Vice President on visits to impacted communities, in a brief speech at the holding camp, thanked the Federal Government for their speedy response to the flood situation.

He observed that the state was bracing up for more impact of the flood as water in the affected states would pass through Delta State to empty into the Atlantic Ocean.

The governor thanked the displaced persons for embracing government programmes aimed at evacuating them to safety, stating, “though, we are aware that property, farm produce have been destroyed, our major concern is to save life, we are aware that the coming days may be more challenging as the flood is expected to rise, but, our people are prepared to ensure that Deltans are not left at the impacted communities; we are praying that the flood recedes fast for our people to return to their normal life.”

Prior to the VPs visit, Governor Okowa had ordered the State’s flood Management committee to move into impacted communities and evacuate people who are yet to relocate to camps established for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

According to the governor, “this is an emergency situation, move the buses to the communities, use speed boats where necessary and comb all the impacted communities, bring out any of our persons remaining in those communities to the IDP camps.”

“From what we have heard, the flood water is rising, you can see that apart from Oko Amakom, the other communities have been submerged; it is an unfortunate situation, thank God we embarked on early awareness campaign and our people listened,” the governor stated.
