As part of its urban renewal programme, the Delta State Government has approved the engagement of a consultant to carry out a feasibility study on monorail Transit system in the state capital territory.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Utuaro Tuesday [08-03-16], Commissioner For Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah flanked by his colleagues, Commissioner for Energy, Barr. Neworld Safugha; Special Duty Commissioner [Government House], Mr. Henry Sakpra; Local Government Affairs Commissioner, Mr. Bright Edejewhro; Youth Development Commissioner, Mr. Peter Forteta and Commissioner, Bureau for special Duties, Mr. Chike Ossai, explained that the state government wants to undertake a study on the viability of the mono-rail transit system in the state capital territory and fit it into the Asaba Development Master plan.

According to him “The state government has approved the engagement of a consultant to do a feasibility study for a comprehensive mass transit monorail system for the state capital territory” stressing that “Government has decided to plan ahead because of the increasing population in the state capital territory in order to help boost transportation”

Mr. Ukah also stated that Exco approved the award of contract for the dualisation of Owa-eke/Owa-Alero road from the old Lagos/Asaba road to Owa-Alero, the reconstruction of Ughelli/Afiesere/Ufoma road in Ughelli North local government area; rehabilitation of Okpare/Owhodokpokpor road and the reconstruction of old Otor-Emede/Olomoro road in Isoko local government area.

On the proposed sale of the Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Oghara, the Commissioner for Energy, Barrister Safugha stated that the state government was looking into the process of completing the sale as recommended by the last administration asserting that “The sale of the IPP was recommended by the last administration, this administration keyed into the plan and we have started the sales process but will brief the press at the right time.”

Reiterating that it was the right of the Legislators to investigate any issues including the IPP project before them, Mr. Ukah speaking on the IPP project emphsised that the three arms of government were independent in their functions asserting that the administration has zero tolerance for corruption.
