Delta Govt Approves Over N300m for Students’ Special Assistance Scheme  … Construction, Rehabilitation Of Seven Roads

Students of Delta State origin who applied for the 2017/2018 academic session Students’ Special Assistance Scheme will soon smile to their banks as the State Government has approved money to pay them.

The state Commissioner for Information, Ogbueshi Patrick Ukah, disclosed this after the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held inside the EXCO Chambers of Government House, Asaba, and presided over by the state Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okwa, on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.

He said that the sum of N312, 448,574:60, being the amount required by the State Bursary and Scholarship Board to successfully implement the 2017/2018 scheme was approved during the meeting.

Still in the education sector, Ogbueshi Ukah revealed that the sum of N473, 832,845:20, being the balance of the state counterpart funding for the Universal Basic Education, was also approved by the EXCO.

The appointments of two Traditional Rulers received the nod of members of the Council. They are His Royal Majesty, Professor Paul Oghenero Okumagba as the Idama 11, the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom in Warri South and His Royal Majesty, Henry Ezeagwukpo Jegbefume 1, as the Obi of Akumazi Kingdom in Ika North East Local Government.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Council also approved the construction of Abavo Circular Road (Phase 11), Abavo in Ika South, completion of the dualisation and rehabilitation of Emore Road in Oleh town, Isoko South and the construction of Ugbomro Road (Sector 11) from Ughelli/Warri Expressway Junction at Iteregbi Village to the main gate of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Uvwie Local Government.

Other roads approved are the construction of Akumazi/Owerre-Olubor/Ekwuoma Link Road (Phase11) with a 265 meters spur to Obior/Ogwashi-Uku Road, construction of Hon. Abinoko Way, Community Road and Ekuobodo Village Road, (Phase1), EkuobodoVillage, Mosogar, Ethiope West and the reconstruction of Igbodo/Obior Road in Ika North East/ Aniocha North.

Also included is the construction of Ajagbodudu Township Roads including Diden Road and link the community to Oghoreki-Ajagbodudu Road to Ugbenu/Koko Road, Ajagbodudu Town Hall Road and Dudu Road.

Recall that Governor Okowa recently said that the state government will take advantage of the dry season to speed up work on construction of roads in the state.
